Job summary

Acorn Product Development, based in Waltham, MA, seeks an experienced design engineer to advance electromechanical products from concept to production. You will perform analyses, create detailed designs, and work with cross-functional teams and vendors for prototyping and tooling.

The role emphasizes hands-on shop skills, strong communication, and regulatory familiarity to deliver robust solutions for diverse clients in robotics, industrial, and medical devices.

Qualifications

• BSME or equivalent; MSME preferred.
• 3+ years design and engineering analysis experience.
• Experience transitioning a complex electromechanical product to production.
• Proficient with SolidWorks; Creo a plus; ASME Y14.5 documentation.
• Hands-on shop/lab skills; familiarity with regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Broaden the breadth and depth of your technical knowledge.
• Work with clients to identify requirements; brainstorm, define and develop product solutions.
• Create detailed designs/documentation to meet project objectives.
• Identify and perform mechanical engineering analyses.
• Collaborate with ID/UX teams to produce refined product designs.
• Interface with vendors for prototyping, tooling & production.
• Test and evaluate prototypes, tooling and first articles.
• Create project and technical reports as required.
• Become adept in managing project activities.

This is an onsite position based out of our Waltham, MA office.

Requirements

• BSME or equivalent (MSME preferred).
• 3+ years of design and engineering analysis experience
• Experience transitioning at least one complex electromechanical product from early concept into production
• Working knowledge of designing molded, sheet metal and machined components
• Proficient with SolidWorks (Creo a plus) and preparing engineering documentation per ASME Y14.5 for production release
• On-the-job analysis experience in at least two of the following areas:
• Tolerance analysis
• FEA and/or CFD
• Strength of materials
• Heat transfer
• Shock and vibration
• Ability to work with teams in a fast-paced product development environment
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and certification processes
• Hands‑on performance in shop/lab skills.
• Hands on project management experience is a bonus
