Job summary

Amtec Staffing in Pasadena, CA is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design spacecraft hardware, develop CAD models and drawings, and collaborate with a world-class team on space missions.

The role requires Siemens NX (preferred) along with CATIA or Creo, ASME drawing standards, and GD&T knowledge. You will work with Teamcenter/Enovia/Windchill in a highly collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical design of spacecraft structures, mechanisms, and instruments.
• Proficiency with CAD tools such as Siemens NX (preferred), CATIA or Creo.
• Ability to create engineering drawings following ASME Y14.100-2017.
• Knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5-2018.
• Experience performing trade studies and developing conceptual configurations.
• Familiarity with aerospace fabrication processes and PLM tools.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop spacecraft hardware including primary/secondary structures, mechanisms, and instruments.
• Create complex CAD models, assemblies and drawings for manufacturing.
• Collaborate with engineers and project staff in a cross-functional team.
• Conduct trade studies to evaluate configurations and feasibility.
• Interface with space science experts, analysts, and manufacturing engineers.
• Develop conceptual spacecraft designs for feasibility and cost estimation.

Summary: This is an opportunity to be a Mechanical Design Engineer in the Engineering Design group, which engages in the engineering and design of advanced spacecraft, instruments and robotic mechanisms for exploration of the solar system.

Some Challenges You’ll Tackle:

• Performing as a Design Engineer on a spacecraft, instrument or robotic project.
• Creating complex CAD models, assemblies and engineering drawings.
• Working with world class engineers and participating on teams in a highly collaborative environment.
• Developing and running configuration trades on the mechanical system of a spacecraft project.
• Interfacing with space science experts, analysts, manufacturing engineers, and project staff.
• Performing conceptual spacecraft design for feasibility and cost estimates of future missions.

Required Skills:

Experience and knowledge in the following areas:

• Mechanical design of spacecraft primary and secondary structures, mechanisms and instruments.
• Engineering CAD (Computer-Aided Design) tools such as Siemens NX (preferred), CATIA or Creo.
