Job summary

Aspen Systems, LLC is seeking a motivated mechanical engineer to design, develop, and verify miniature refrigeration systems. The candidate will follow good engineering practices in documentation and will transition designs to manufacturing with support from production teams.

Responsibilities include defining system requirements with customers, designing for manufacturability and cost, and generating detailed documentation and test reports to ensure product performance and reliability.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in mechanical engineering or equivalent field.
• 5–10 years of engineering experience.
• Experience generating engineering documentation (specs, schematics, test procedures, test reports).
• Proficient in SolidWorks and creating drawings for various parts and assemblies.
• Experience in an ISO 9001 environment.
• Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
• Hands-on laboratory testing of electrical and mechanical systems.
• Fundamental knowledge of refrigeration systems and heat transfer.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently and in a team.

Candidates must be willing to expand their function beyond engineering development - Aspen engineers are frequently involved with transitioning designs to manufacturing and support of production.

• Develop custom thermal solutions from concept phase through manufacturing release, working with the customers as well as Aspen's internal manufacturing and quality teams.
• Interact with customers to define system requirements and interface
• Review designs throughout the development process in an efficient and timely manner
• Develop and execute design verification protocols in accordance with engineering best practice
• Generate detailed engineering documentation (drawings of parts, subassemblies, etc.)
• Conduct data analysis and generate written test reports summarizing system performance
• Design systems with attention to ease of manufacturability and minimization of system cost
• Work with suppliers to minimize component cost and complexity

Requirements

• Experience generating engineering documentation, such as product specifications, system schematics, test procedures, and test reports
• Proficient in SolidWorks (or other CAD software), including creating engineering drawings for sheet metal, machined parts, plastics, or other parts and assemblies
• Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
• Experience with hands-on laboratory testing of electrical and mechanical systems
• Fundamental knowledge of refrigeration systems and heat transfer
• Self-motivated: able to work independently as well as part of a product development team
• Experience working in an ISO 9001-compliant environment
• Proficient in MS Office
