Job summary

Gerdau North America is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II (Project Manager) to lead CAPEX projects, coordinate cross-functional teams, and drive improvements in equipment, facilities, and processes.

You will define scopes, prepare technical studies, manage schedules and budgets, and develop bid packages while partnering with Operations, Procurement and Safety teams to ensure successful project delivery and measurable benefits.

Qualifications

  • Four year college degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • 2 years of industrial engineering experience with CAPEX/project exposure.
  • Basic AutoCAD and layout skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project.
  • Knowledgeable in Industrial Safety and Construction Methods.

Responsibilities

  • Define project information with Project Teams for CAPEX.
  • Prepare Technical Studies for CAPEX Project Plans.
  • Scope of Work Definition and Implementation Planning.
  • Schedule for Project and Cost/Benefit Analysis.
  • Coordinate with Procurement to issue Purchase Orders and Contracts.
  • Work with Operations to modify processes impacted by project.
  • Installation and Commissioning of Equipment, Facilities, and Utilities.
  • Finalization of Project Documentation and Drawings.

Your Purpose

You will provide technical coordination and support in the operating and capital expense management processes by initiating and running projects using the capital expense (CAPEX) project process, and equipment monitoring, stabilization and improvements.

  • Utilize Project Teams to Define the Information for Projects
  • Prepare Technical Studies for CAPEX Project Plans
  • Scope of Work Definition and Implementation Planning
  • Schedule for Project
  • Project Cost and Benefit Analysis
  • Preliminary Studies for Project Planning (PS)
  • Submit Selected Project Plans for Approval of Investment (PAI)
  • Drawing and Document Management for Projects
  • Project Closure (AVI)
Project Implementation
  • Completely Responsible for Project Scope, Schedule, and Budget
  • Utilize Project Team's Skills for a Successful Project
  • Design of Equipment, Facilities, and Processes
  • Develop Technical Bid Packages for Equipment Fabrication
  • Develop Technical Bid Packages for Facility and Utilities
  • Selection of Equipment and Construction Companies to perform works
  • Coordinate with Procurement to issue Purchase Orders and Contracts
  • Work with Operations to Modify Processes Impacted by Project
  • Installation of Equipment, Facilities, and Utilities
  • Commissioning of Equipment, Facilities, and Utilities
  • Verify and Report Project Function, Quality and Benefits
  • Finalization of Project Documentation and Drawings
CAPEX Portfolio Planning
  • Coordinate with Operations on Short- and Long-Term Project Needs
  • Organize Project Priorities by Criticality and Benefit Calculations
  • Investigate New Technologies and Best Practices and Incorporate into Project Plans
  • Participate in the preparation of CAPEX Plans for Departments
Provide Technical Support for Operations
  • Work closely with Routine and Improvement Facilitators on Operational Improvements
  • Actively involved in Safety Teams and Improvements
  • Trouble Shooting of Existing Equipment and Processes
  • Assist and Participate in Improvement Activities
  • Coordination of Schedules During Outage Periods
  • Implement Best Practices
  • Assist with the Annual Action Planning
Qualifications Required
  • Four year college degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 2 years of industrial engineering experience, which includes a basic knowledge of engineering and construction techniques used in designing and constructing projects
  • Ability to apply engineering fundamentals to the continuous improvement efforts of CAPEX and maximize the efficiency of the overall department operation
  • Basic Auto-Cad and layout skills
  • Proficient in all Microsoft software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project Schedule
  • Knowledgeable in Industrial Safety and Construction Methods
  • Committed to results and leadership skills with proven ability to drive profitability in a fast-paced manufacturing business
  • Ability to develop and lead dynamic teamwork throughout the organization
  • Oral and written communication skills, ability to articulate ideas, detail-oriented data collection and presentation skills are required
  • Ability to travel Domestic and Overseas with flexibility regarding the frequency and duration of travel
