About This Role

QCi is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design, develop, and integrate precision mechanical modules and assemblies across a range of product lines. This role is well suited for an engineer with strong mechanical design fundamentals, excellent SolidWorks skills, and the ability to quickly learn new technologies and application domains.

The successful candidate will work across the full product development cycle—from concept development and prototyping through testing, qualification, and production. You will collaborate closely with electrical, optical, and manufacturing engineers to develop practical solutions in a fast-paced environment where requirements evolve and new technical challenges emerge regularly.

Responsibilities
  • Design mechanical modules and assemblies for electromechanical, optoelectronic, and photonics packaging, balancing structural, thermal, and manufacturing constraints.
  • Develop 3D models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings in SolidWorks.
  • Evaluate mechanical design trade-offs in the context of adjacent subsystems — including heat dissipation paths, electrical interconnect routing, and optical alignment sensitivity.
  • Rapidly learn and apply new materials, processes, and design standards as product requirements evolve.
  • Support DFM/DFA reviews and collaborate with vendors and contract manufacturers on custom machined, stamped, and formed components.
  • Adapt designs in response to test data, failure analysis findings, and changing customer requirements.
  • Contribute to qualification and verification activities including environmental, mechanical, and functional testing.
  • Document designs clearly through engineering drawings, specifications, and change orders

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across multiple engineering disciplines while independently driving tasks to completion.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with electromechanical, optical, photonic, semiconductor, medical device, aerospace, robotics, automation, or other complex hardware systems.
  • Experience with hermetic or high-reliability packaging in defense, aerospace, industrial, or related applications.
  • Exposure to material-selection tradeoffs in the context of manufacturability, reliability, and cost.
  • Exposure to precision assembly environments such as cleanroom, optical, semiconductor, or medical-device manufacturing.
  • Experience considering system-level interactions between mechanical, thermal, electrical, and optical subsystems during product development.
  • Experience interfacing with machine shops, suppliers, and contract manufacturers.
  • Prior experience in photonics, optics, RF, or semiconductor packaging is beneficial but not required.
