Job summary

EFI Global in Los Angeles seeks a Licensed Mechanical Engineer (PE) to join our forensic team. You will analyze mechanical systems, investigate failures, and reconstruct accidents to provide clear, defensible conclusions for legal and insurance matters.

A PE license and six years of experience are required; ACTAR is preferred. You will work with attorneys and other experts, prepare detailed reports, and testify when needed. Preference given to candidates in the greater Los Angeles area.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Investigates vehicles, equipment, and accident sites to document evidence and determine damage scope.
  • Investigates and assesses damages due to failures and origin of failure for insurers and litigation support.
  • Researches, evaluates, analyzes and tests causation of accidents and failures.
  • Collaborates with other engineering disciplines to produce detailed reports outlining the cause of the accident.
  • Serves as an expert witness in court and/or depositions.
  • Documents and maintains billable hours on a time-and-expense basis for failure analysis and engineering projects.
  • Collaborates with EFI's national team of forensic experts on projects.

Are you a problem-solver with a passion for uncovering the truth behind complex mechanical failures and vehicle accidents? We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer with a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license to join our dynamic team of forensic experts. Vehicle Accident Reconstruction experience is required. ACTAR certification is preferred. In this role, you will leverage your technical knowledge and investigative mindset to analyze mechanical systems, mechanical equipment, component failures, and reconstruct accident scenarios, providing clear, defensible conclusions that make a real impact in legal and insurance cases.

From evaluating component failures to interpreting crash dynamics, your expertise will help clients understand what happened—and why. PRIMARY PURPOSE

To investigate accident sites, vehicles, and equipment, researching, documenting evidence and determine damage, and provide clients with expert opinions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS And RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conducts investigations of vehicles, equipment, and accident sites to document the evidence and determine the scope of damage.
  • Investigates and assesses damages due to failures and determines the origin of failure for insurers and litigation support.
  • Researches, evaluates, analyzes and tests the causation of accidents and failures.
  • Collaborates with other engineering disciplines to produce detailed reports outlining the cause of the accident.
  • Serves as an expert witness in court and/or in depositions.
  • Documents and maintains billable hours on a time and expense basis for failure analysis and engineering projects for clients.
  • Collaborates with EFI's national team of forensic experts to leverage experiences and assist on projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Travels as required.
Qualifications
Education & Licensing

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required. Professional Engineering (PE) license is required.

Experience

Six (6) years of experience or equivalent combination of experience and education required.

As required by law, Sedgwick provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in jurisdictions requiring pay transparency in job postings. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and cost of specific location. For the jurisdiction noted in this job posting only, the range of starting pay for this role is $130,000-$150,000. A comprehensive benefits package is offered including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, 401k and matching, PTO, disability and life insurance, employee assistance, flexible spending or health savings account, and other additional voluntary benefits.
