Job summary

Jacobs is seeking an On-Site Mechanical Engineer for a project near Baton Rouge, LA. You will act as the field representative for mechanical systems, coordinating between construction teams and engineering design to ensure delivery of critical infrastructure.

Responsibilities include leading on-site HVAC, cooling, and piping work; resolving field issues, RFIs, and coordination with trades; supporting commissioning and BIM activities; and producing weekly progress and risk reports.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years of mechanical design, construction, commissioning, or operations experience; or 5+ years in hyperscale data center environments.
• Experience with chilled water systems, cooling plants, CRAH/CRAC systems, piping systems.
• Strong understanding of codes, specs, and industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary on-site representative for HVAC, cooling, piping, and other mechanical systems.
• Perform daily site observations, assess installation progress and workmanship.
• Coordinate mechanical design clarifications and field solutions with project stakeholders.
• Facilitate responses to RFIs, submittals, equipment substitutions, and field conflicts.
• Support reviews of equipment layouts, utility routing, and coordination between trades.
• Participate in constructability reviews, BIM coordination activities, and mockups.
• Identify and document mechanical installation deficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
• Support factory testing, startup activities, and commissioning preparation.
• Coordinate with QA/QC and commissioning teams to resolve installation issues.
• Attend project meetings and provide technical guidance on mechanical systems.
• Issue weekly reports summarizing observations, risks, corrective actions, and schedule impacts.

The Mechanical On-Site Engineer serves as the Professional's field representative for mechanical systems and oversees coordination between construction teams and the engineering design team. The role focuses on supporting installation, issue resolution, quality reviews, and successful delivery of critical mechanical infrastructure.

Here's what you'll need

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years of mechanical design, construction, commissioning, or operations experience; or 5+ years in hyperscale data center environments.
• Experience with chilled water systems, cooling plants, CRAH/CRAC systems, piping systems, and mission-critical environments.
• Strong understanding of specifications, codes, and industry standards.
• Ability to evaluate field conditions and provide practical solutions.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills.

The base salary range for this position is $95,200.00 to $130,900.00.
