Job summary

Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join the Building Design Group in Fairfax, VA. You will contribute to design and construction administration for small to medium projects and collaborate with larger teams on substantial projects.

Responsibilities include documentation, design analyses, coordination, and mentorship. Requires a PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months, ABET-accredited degree, and 11–15 years of experience in mechanical

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering from an ABET accredited program; Master’s degree preferred.
  • PE license in Virginia or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • 11–15 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in consulting.
  • Proficient knowledge of DX packaged systems, hydronic systems, chilled/hot water plants, and plumbing.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and HVAC design software; familiarity with codes and guidelines.
  • Excellent coordination, communication, and interpersonal abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop construction documents: plans, sections, schedules, details, controls, cost estimates, and specs for mechanical systems.
  • Perform engineering design analyses, energy and life-cycle cost analyses; ensure designs meet energy targets.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Develop control strategies, calculations, system concepts, layouts, and designs.
  • Mentor junior engineers and staff, fostering professional growth.

We are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our Building Design Group in our Fairfax, VA office. As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will be a key player in completing the design and construction administration for small to medium-sized projects, as well as collaborating within larger design teams for substantial projects. We are looking for a highly experienced mechanical engineer with in-depth knowledge of various mechanical system designs, including DX packaged systems, hydronic systems, chilled water plants, heating water plants, and plumbing.

Responsibilities:

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or architectural engineering or related field from an ABET accredited program. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 11 - 15 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in the consulting industry.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the commonwealth of Virginia or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • Proficient knowledge of a variety of mechanical system designs, including DX packaged systems, hydronic systems, chilled water plants, heating water plants, and plumbing.
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools, such as AutoCAD, Revit, and HVAC design software.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and guidelines.
  • Excellent interdisciplinary coordination skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
