Job summary

Stillpoint AEC is collaborating with a respected MEP consulting firm to hire a Mechanical Engineer skilled in HVAC and building systems design. You will lead design efforts across diverse project types, perform calculations, and prepare construction documents.

The role emphasizes collaboration with architects and other engineers, with opportunities for project leadership and mentorship. A PE licensure is preferred and a hybrid/onsite work model is available based on project needs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field is preferred.
• Current HVAC and mechanical systems design experience in MEP/AEC environments is required.
• Experience with load calculations, equipment selection, ductwork, piping, and ventilation is expected.
• PE licensure preferred; EIT candidates progressing toward PE will be considered.
• Experience with software: Revit, AutoCAD, TRACE/HAP, EnergyPlus or similar tools is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC and mechanical building systems including air distribution and central plants.
• Perform heating/cooling load, ventilation, and energy calculations.
• Develop HVAC layouts, ductwork, piping, and equipment schedules.
• Evaluate and select equipment like AHUs, RTUs, chillers, boilers, and pumps.
• Coordinate systems with architecture, electrical, plumbing, and civil teams.
• Prepare calculations, reports, and construction documents; support design through all phases.

The firm is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with current experience designing HVAC and mechanical systems for buildings within an MEP consulting engineering or AEC environment. Responsibilities and project leadership will align with the individual's technical expertise and experience level.

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC and mechanical building systems including air distribution, hydronic systems, central plants, heating and cooling systems, ventilation, and related mechanical infrastructure
• Perform heating and cooling load calculations, ventilation calculations, equipment sizing and selection, psychrometric analysis, and energy calculations
• Develop HVAC system layouts, ductwork and piping designs, equipment schedules, mechanical details, and control sequences
• Evaluate and select mechanical equipment including air handling units, rooftop units, chillers, boilers, pumps, heat exchangers, terminal equipment, and related systems
• Work across a diverse portfolio of project types including commercial, healthcare, K-12, higher education, life sciences, corporate, multifamily, mixed-use, hospitality, industrial, and institutional facilities
• Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, plans, specifications, and construction documents
• Apply ASHRAE standards, mechanical codes, energy codes, and applicable building design standards
• Coordinate mechanical systems with architectural, electrical, plumbing, structural, civil, and other project disciplines
• Support projects through schematic design, design development, construction documentation, permitting, bidding, and construction administration
• Provide project coordination, technical guidance, client interaction, and mentorship based on experience level

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline preferred
• Current HVAC and mechanical building systems design experience within an MEP consulting engineering, architectural engineering, or AEC consulting environment required
• Experience with HVAC system design, load calculations, equipment selection, ductwork, piping, ventilation, and other building mechanical systems
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure preferred; EIT candidates actively progressing toward PE licensure will also be considered
• Experience with applicable mechanical engineering and design platforms such as Revit, AutoCAD, Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, IESVE, EnergyPlus, or similar industry‑specific software preferred
• Working knowledge of ASHRAE standards, IMC, IECC, energy codes, and applicable mechanical and building codes
• Experience preparing mechanical engineering calculations, plans, specifications, and construction documents
