Job summary

EMPIRI INC. in Houston is seeking a lead in-house engineer to own end-to-end mechanical design for a tissue-diagnostics instrument.

You will prototype fast, validate concepts, and drive the design through to moderate-volume production while coordinating with UI, software, and fabrication teams. The role emphasizes precision mechanisms, fluid dynamics at small volumes, temperature control, and aseptic design.

Qualifications

• BS in bioengineering or mechanical engineering and 3+ years hands-on engineering experience.
• Experience automating manual processes and designing precision mechanisms.
• Hands-on with pick-and-place, motion control, machine vision, and mechatronics.

Responsibilities

• Design, prototype, and refine precision tissue-handling mechanisms.
• Develop fluid-handling concepts for microliter to milliliter volumes.
• Create temperature-control systems and integrated controls.
• Build a cohesive mechanical system with feedback and UI handoff.
• Design single-use consumables with rapid prototyping and tooling in mind.
• Ensure aseptic processing, cleanability, and ease of use from start.
• Collaborate with a 3rd-party firm to validate the instrument for CLIA/FDA readiness.
• Document methods and results to audit-ready standards and support filings.
• Train staff to operate the instrument; support patent filings when needed.
