Job summary

Lear For You in Novi, MI, seeks a mechanical design engineer to cover all areas of design including structural, component, mechanism, and tooling design. You will develop designs from direction provided by Novi program management and Lear engineers.

Responsibilities include creating drawings, collaborating with the shop, selecting pneumatic components, and ensuring designs meet customer specs and standards. Three years in a design role and a BS in ME are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Three years of experience in a design role at an automation/machine build shop.
• Experience using SolidWorks for equipment design.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with Project Managers, Controls Engineers, the manufacturing team, and customers to develop systems and complete projects.
• Provide machine, mechanism, and tooling design along with drawing creation under minimal supervision.
• Prepare drawing packages for manufacture and assembly per customer requirements and drafting standards.
• Collaborate with shop members during the build.
• Deliberate with Controls engineers to design for integration and select pneumatic components.
• Develop mechanical designs to solve production plant issues.
• Use SolidWorks to develop equipment, machine, mechanism, or tooling designs meeting customer specs and company quotes.
• Be knowledgeable in standards, processes, and best practices to complete duties.
• Develop predictive maintenance indicators to increase reliability and reduce downtime.
• Support legacy mechanical designs.
• Share design methodologies and productivity tools for knowledge growth within the company.
• Mentor less experienced design staff and assist in developing concepts and design methodologies.

Job Description

This position encompasses all areas of mechanical design engineering - including structural design, component design, mechanisms, and tooling. This position works with the Program Manager and Engineering departments to complete designs. Develop designs from direction supplied by Novi program management and external Lear engineers

• Deliberates with Controls engineers to design for integration and select pneumatic components
• Develop mechanical designs to solve production plant issues
• Uses SolidWorks to develop equipment, machine, mechanism, or tooling designs that meet customer specifications and the company quote
• Knowledgeable in standards, processes, and best practices and able to use them to complete duties.
• Develop predictive maintenance indicators to increase reliability and reduce downtime
• Supports legacy mechanical designs
• Shares design methodologies, productivity tools, standards, processes, and legacy information for increased knowledge and experience within the company

Education Requirements

• Mechanical Engineering Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

Experience Requirements

• Three years’ experience in a design role at an automation/machine build shop.
