Job Overview

Position Summary

Provide engineering support in the design, construction, and maintenance for facilities at the NASA Johnson Space Center, White Sands Test Facility site, Las Cruces, NM. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible to review project specifications such as plan preparation, acceptance testing, evaluation of field conditions, design changes, & reports. Position is responsible and will manage the mechanical design process and orchestrates the planning, design, cost estimating, and phased scheduling for projects.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

• Works independently, or with minimal supervision relying heavily on prior professional experience and knowledge of state and local regulations. Will provide guidance and direction to lower-level engineers and may act as lead on projects.
• Performs mechanical design and planning work for new construction, renovation, and improvement projects for a variety of real property facilities.
• Primary deliverables include scopes of work, specifications documents, and cost estimates for future projects.
• Responsible to prepare engineering design criteria documents, calculations, drawings, and specifications for mechanical systems including HVAC, pumps, pressure vessel systems (PVS), heating and cooling water piping system, compressed air systems, building automation systems, and various other special systems. Assess feasibility and completeness of proposed engineering tests, equipment, projects, and designs.
• Provides engineering support for both preventative and corrective maintenance as well as trouble analysis.
• Utilize professional knowledge of mechanical theory, standard engineering theory and techniques, and local regulations to perform requirements, determinations, technical assistance, and conventional design work.
• Supports mechanical projects during construction, including coordinating answers to Requests for Information, Change Orders, and solving problems that arise in the field.
• Actively participates in design review committees and processes.
• Engages engineering support personnel for CADD and GIS support during project development.
• Serves as mechanical engineer-of-record for design documents and reports.
• Prepares and presents informal and formal presentations to the customers and management.
• Supports and participates in the company safety program.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Mandatory:

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET accredited university program.
• Minimum of fifteen (15) years’ experience as a Design Engineer or Requirements Engineer in the field of mechanical engineering.
• Registered as a Professional Engineer in the state of New Mexico or the ability to receive reciprocity within the introductory period.
• Skill in the use of MS Office products; Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat Standard/Pro at an intermediate level.
• Ability to pass pre-hire background and drug screening as required on the contract.
• Ability to obtain and maintain the required level clearance.
• U.S. Citizenship.
• Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
