Job summary

Kiewit Power Engineering in Lenexa, Kansas is seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern for Summer 2027. You will assist in the design of mechanical piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) for power plant systems and prepare design calculations for major equipment.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering with a GPA above 3.0, proficient in Microsoft Office, and familiar with hydraulic software such as AFT Fathom.

Qualifications

• Pursuing BS in Mechanical Engineering with GPA >3.0 preferred.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Preferred: experience with AFT Fathom or AFT Arrow hydraulic simulation software.

Position Overview

Kiewit Power Engineeringis seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern for the Lenexa, Kansas office. We are looking for Ideal candidates to grow the Kiewit team by helping establish, maintain, and improve company standards and tools while also utilizing these standards and tools to contribute to project success. Candidates shall be familiar with current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software with an understanding of design documentation creation and layouts. Candidates shall be capable of exhibiting flexibility in work assignments while maintaining a growth mindset and continuing to develop in their technical and professional career.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design of mechanical piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) for power plant systems including steam cycle systems, boiler feed and condensate, water treatment, fuel handling, hydraulic, heat transfer systems, conveying systems, and air and gas systems.

Qualifications

• Pursuing Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
• GPA above 3.0 preferred
• Proficient in basic computing programs including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Preferred experience utilizing AFT Fathom or AFT Arrow hydraulic simulation software (or equivalent).
• Strong work ethic - willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Preferred: Interest in power
