Job summary

Nightwing is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to support ongoing programs at our Springfield, Virginia location. This onsite role requires a self-starter with strong communication and collaboration skills to assist senior engineers on diverse projects. Qualifications include pursuing a MS or BS in Mechanical Engineering, 3.0+ GPA, and CAD experience (SolidWorks preferred).

Candidates must be U.S. citizens with the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance if hired full time after

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited college or university.
• Pursuing an MS or BS in Mechanical Engineering.
• Rising Junior or Senior by Summer 2027.
• GPA 3.0+ on a 4.0 scale is desired.
• US citizenship with ability to obtain TS clearance (if hired full time after graduation).
• Experience with CAD and SolidWorks for design/documentation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient with MS Office (Word/PowerPoint/Excel/Project).
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; background check required.

Responsibilities

• Support multidisciplinary engineering activities with senior engineers.
• Design and analyze tools and mechanisms for projects.
• Create detailed fabrication drawings and documentation.
• Conduct mechanical testing and rapid prototyping.
• Assist with report writing and presentations.

Nightwing is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern with the technical and communication skills needed to support ongoing programs at our Springfield, Virginia location. Candidates must be professional, self-starters, possess a positive attitude, and work well with engineering and technician teams. This position is an onsite role.

Responsibilities to Anticipate

• Support of multidisciplinary engineering activities and senior engineers on various projects within the program
• Design and analysis of tools/mechanisms
• creation of detailed fabrication drawings
• mechanical testing
• rapid prototyping and assembly
• report and presentation writing
• design review support

Basic Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited college or university
• Pursuing a M.S. or B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
• Rising Junior or Senior by the start of Summer 2027
• a GPA of 3.0+ in a 4.0 grade scale is desired
• U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and retain a U.S. Top Secret Clearance with a successful Counterintelligence (CI) polygraph (if hired full time after graduation)
• Experience or coursework with CAD software package for mechanical design and documentation (SolidWorks preferred)
• Fundamental engineering coursework and knowledge
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Proficient with MS Office tools including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Project
• Ability to adapt to shifting program and task priorities
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, collaborative team environment balancing diverse project tasks and types
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Background check and drug screen required (every external new hire in the U.S.)
• drug screen only performed on re-hires who have been gone for more than 1 year
