Mechanical Engineer, Infrastructure
Lead MEP design and coordination for Starbase infrastructure projects.
Location: Starbase, Texas, United States.
The role supports building and upgrading facilities and ground‑support equipment (GSE) to develop a high‑volume rocket factory. The engineer will be part of a high‑performing team tackling complex, never‑before‑solved challenges.
Responsibilities
- Lead MEP design and coordination for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
- Partner with cross‑departmental teams to define requirements and derive design details.
- Prepare and review design drawings and documents for mechanical, electrical, and fluid systems.
- Manage construction activities related to MEP systems, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
- Use construction/engineering knowledge to expedite the design process and solve conflicts during construction.
- Write and manage construction contracts with subcontractors across multiple disciplines through contract close‑out.
- Perform project control tasks, including scheduling, budgeting, and cost control.
- Resolve design and construction conflicts in the field in real time.
- Oversee and own the full lifecycle of tasks and/or projects to achieve on‑time and under‑budget delivery with customer satisfaction.
- Manage tools and folder systems relating to the organization of construction projects.
- Provide budgetary costs based upon the preliminary scope of the project.
- Gather proposals from architects, engineers, and contractors; assign contracts upon receipt of all proposals.
- Develop the final cost and schedule for the project, and implement controls as needed to manage cost, schedule, and scope.
- Facilitate city, county, and governmental approvals.
- Coordinate project implementation and track project status.
- Work with the facilities team and customers to operationalize post‑construction building operations and maintenance functions.
- Coordinate with customer and facilities teams for building operations and maintenance.
- Manage night‑shift contractors as project work requires.
- Take on new projects ad‑hoc as the business needs.
- Coordinate permit acquisition/close‑out with the permitting team.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, or structural engineering.
- 1+ years of experience creating structural, civil, or MEP construction documents, including plans, elevations, sections, and details.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, think critically, and drive successful outcomes.
- Possess the mentality of extreme ownership, owning outcomes from concept to customer turnover.
- Experience in construction, project management, and tenant improvement.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or other MEP design and analysis software.
- Proficiency with design and construction of electrical, plumbing, HVAC/R, controls, fire protection systems, concrete, structural framing, and industrial gas trades.
- Ability to read instructions and blueprints.
- Knowledge of basic construction and engineering principles and methods.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self‑motivated and able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Additional Requirements
- Must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed based on site operational needs; flexibility required.
