Job summary

Stickle Steam Specialties in Indianapolis, Indiana is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design steam systems and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle—from concept through startup.

You will develop technical specifications, CAD drawings, and system designs, collaborate with Sales and Operations, and travel up to 75% as required to support customer sites and installations.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree required.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or equivalent 2D design software.
  • Experience with pneumatic systems and valves/controls.
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley equipment.
  • Ability to design, troubleshoot, and support customers across project lifecycle.
  • Willingness to travel up to 75%.

About the role:

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing Stickle steam systems and providing technical support to customers throughout the project lifecycle, including system design, troubleshooting, installation, and startup.

Responsibilities
  • Develop technical specifications, system designs, and CAD drawings for customer projects.
  • Provide engineering support for customer inquiries, installations, troubleshooting, and system startups.
  • Apply mechanical engineering knowledge across system design, drafting, programming, troubleshooting, and customer support.
  • Evaluate projects from a big-picture perspective, considering system requirements, customer needs, and business objectives.
  • Conduct customer site reviews, system audits, and evaluations.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Operations, and internal teams to support successful project execution.
  • Independently identify challenges, develop solutions, and drive projects forward with ownership and accountability.
  • Communicate complex technical information clearly to customers, internal teams, and leadership.
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Travel up to 75% or more, including occasional nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Engineering degree .
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or other 2D design software required.
  • Experience with pneumatic systems and valves/controls required.
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley .
  • Versatile mechanical engineering knowledge with the ability to contribute across multiple areas rather than a single specialty.
  • Ability to understand broader system design, project objectives, and customer needs beyond individual drafting or programming tasks.
  • Comfortable taking on diverse responsibilities and adapting to changing priorities
  • Demonstrates intellectual curiosity, a desire to learn, and a commitment to continuous growth and improvement.
  • Must have a positive, team-oriented attitude by approaching challenges with a collaborative, solution-focused mindset while fostering a respectful and supportive work environment.
