Job summary

Autonomous Solutions, Inc. (ASI) in Utah is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for full-time work on robotic unmanned vehicles. Responsibilities include researching, designing, testing, and validating mechanical subsystems and assemblies for autonomous platforms.

You will work with electrical, mechanical, and software teams to ensure robust, reliable designs. A BS in mechanical engineering is required with 5–7 years' design experience and CAD/FEA proficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field; master's preferred.
  • 5-7 years mechanical engineering experience.
  • 5-7 years machine & design experience with SolidWorks, Pro-E, or Catia.
  • Proficient CAD/SolidWorks skills and design reviews documentation.
  • Experience with finite element analysis and hand stress calculations.
  • Knowledge of GD&T and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiar with systems including hydraulics, gears, and motors.

Responsibilities

  • Research and analyze data to determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Design products or systems for robotic control using mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic principles.
  • Participate in fabrication and installation to meet specifications.
  • Coordinate operation, maintenance, and repair to optimize equipment use.
  • Design interfaces between machines, hardware, and software.
  • Evaluate field installations and propose design modifications to fix issues.
  • Contribute to design reviews.

Summary

The primary responsibilities of a Mechanical Engineer includes: researching, planning, and designing mechanical and electromechanical products and systems for ASI's robotic unmanned vehicles. Designs, develops, and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery. Applies knowledge of engineering principles to design products such as engines, instruments, controls, robots, machines, etc. Conducts product testing and creates models and prototypes. Mechanical Engineers are also responsible for directing and coordinating activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Reports to a manager/supervisor. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.

Responsibilities
  • Research and analyze data including customer design proposals, specifications and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Design products or systems for robotic control using electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic principles and components.
  • Participate in fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
  • Coordinate operation, maintenance, and repair activities that optimize utilization of machines and equipment.
  • Design products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software.
  • Evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or systems malfunctions.
  • Contribute to design reviews.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field. Master's Degree preferred.
  • 5-7 years Mechanical Engineering related experience.
  • 5-7 years of machine & product design experience using Solid Works, Pro-E, or Catia.
  • Proficient design skills in CAD/Solidworks software.
  • Extensive experience in documenting design reviews.
  • Proficient at documenting requirements.
  • Must have experience in finite Element Analysis.
  • Experience using hand calculations of stresses.
  • Must have experience with GD&T
  • Proficient in using math software like Matlab or Mathcad.
  • Familiar with failure modes and effects analysis.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Familiar Patent Law.
  • Understanding of software development.
  • Familiar with Systems; Heavy Equipment; Hydraulics; Gearing and Motor
