HL Mando America Corp. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III to design, develop, and optimize advanced robotic actuator systems for humanoid and industrial robotics.

This role supports prototype development, sourcing, and validation, ensuring manufacturability, quality, and cost targets throughout concept to production readiness. The candidate should have a BS in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years in mechanical product development, proficiency in CAD tools, and experience with DFM/ DFA/ FMEA.

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years in mechanical product development or advanced manufacturing engineering.
  • Experience with CNC, Injection molding, Casting, Heat Treat, and additive manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical components, assemblies, and manufacturing solutions for prototypes and pre-production.
  • Create and release drawings, BOMs, and procurement packages.
  • Evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies to improve cost and quality.

Mechanical Engineer III-Advanced Product Design & Manufacturing

Job Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer III – Advanced Product Design and Manufacturing is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing advanced robotic actuator systems, including rotary and linear motion solutions, for humanoid, industrial, and service robotics applications. This role drives new product development initiatives by supporting the design, sourcing, procurement, and validation of prototype components and manufacturing processes. The incumbent collaborates with cross‑functional teams to ensure products are designed for performance, manufacturability, quality, and cost‑effectiveness while supporting the transition from concept through prototype development and production readiness. Through the application of advanced mechanical engineering principles and manufacturing expertise, the Mechanical Engineer III contributes to the successful development and commercialization of innovative robotic technologies.

Key Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned as needed):

  • Design mechanical components, assemblies, and manufacturing solutions for prototype and pre‑production products, ensuring performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability objectives are achieved.
  • Create and release engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), engineering change documentation, and procurement packages.
  • Evaluate, develop, and implement new manufacturing technologies, processes, and tooling to improve manufacturability, product quality, cost efficiency, and product development cycle time.
  • Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Reliability (DFR), APQP, and product development activities to meet quality, cost, and project timing objectives.
  • Coordinate prototype builds by planning component procurement, supporting assembly and engineering validation, managing design iterations, and partnering with cross‑functional teams to meet project schedules and technical milestones.
  • Research and apply emerging actuator technologies, advanced materials, precision manufacturing methods, and robotics industry trends to drive product innovation, improve system performance, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical product development, prototype manufacturing, or advanced manufacturing engineering.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including: CNC machining, Injection molding, Casting, Heat Treat and Additive Manufacturing (3D printing)
  • Experience procuring prototype components from domestic and international suppliers.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Use and application of component GD&T based on product functional requirements.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, or Siemens NX.
  • Design and Process Failure Mode Effects and Analysis (FMEA).
  • Application of Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods and principles to product design requirements.
  • Experience with product design and manufacturing involving rotary bearings, recirculating ball screws, and belt‑and‑gear‑reduction mechanisms is preferred.
  • Strong project management, communication, and supplier management skills.
  • Ability to coordinate and organize program deliverables from multiple sources and customers.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with internal and external customers.
  • Excellent verbal and technical communication skills required.

Working Conditions: This position operates in a mix of office environment, test lab and test track. Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
  • Ability to work in a test lab environment
  • Occasional lifting of items up to 20 lbs.
  • Frequent walking, standing, and bending as needed to perform duties.

Remote Work: Primarily onsite and limited travel.
