Responsibilities
- Leads or supports engineering projects from initial concept and specification through design, prototype build, verification, design transfer, manufacturing implementation, and post‑launch support.
- Develops mechanical designs, assemblies, components, fixtures, tooling, and related specifications while balancing safety, reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, cost, and user needs.
- Translates customer, regulatory, quality, manufacturing, and business requirements into practical mechanical design solutions.
- Prepares and maintains engineering documentation for multiple audiences, including design inputs, outputs, drawings, bills of material, test protocols, test reports, engineering analyses, ECNs, and design history files.
- Participates in and may lead cross‑functional design reviews, FMEA activities, risk analysis, usability or human‑factors reviews, troubleshooting sessions, and technical decision reviews.
- Develops verification strategies and writes or reviews test protocols for mechanical products, components, assemblies, fixtures, and design changes.
- Performs hands‑on testing, prototyping, troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and design iteration using engineering judgment and data from multiple sources.
- Interprets legacy designs and performs sustaining engineering activities, including product support, component obsolescence resolution, supplier changes, value engineering, and continuous improvement.
- Interfaces with manufacturing, subcontractors, suppliers, and international design teams in design transfer, technical support, and vendor coordination situations.
- Designs, fabricates, or coordinates test parts, equipment, jigs, and fixtures using internal resources, suppliers, basic machine tools, and rapid prototyping methods.
- Supports Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance activities by integrating applicable design control, risk management, regulatory, and quality system requirements into engineering work.
- Facilitates or contributes to the ECN process for cross‑functional workstreams and ensures assigned engineering deliverables are completed with appropriate quality, traceability, and timeliness.
- Prioritizes and manages multiple projects or activities with limited supervision, raising risks, trade‑offs, and resource needs in a timely and professional manner.
- Acts as a resource for engineers, co‑ops, interns, and colleagues with less experience by providing technical guidance, peer review, coaching, and support without direct supervisory authority.
- Demonstrates leadership behaviors consistent with future management potential, including accountability, clear communication, collaboration, constructive feedback, and the ability to build consensus across functions.
- Supports and contributes to continuous improvement and Envista Business System activities such as Daily Management, Problem Solving Process, Visual Project Management, and standard work improvement as applicable.

Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in mechanical product design, sustaining engineering, new product development, design transfer, manufacturing support, or a closely related engineering role.
- Advanced degree may be considered in combination with relevant experience.
- Experience in a regulated industry such as medical device, aerospace, or automotive is highly desired.
- Demonstrated ability to independently complete complex engineering assignments with minimal guidance and to make sound engineering recommendations based on data, analysis, risk, and business needs.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical parts, assemblies, mechanisms, materials, tolerancing, drawings, specifications, and design for manufacturability.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD and 2D drawing tools such as SolidWorks (preferred), Creo, or equivalent.
- Hands‑on experience with testing, prototyping, troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and verification of mechanical designs, products, or fixtures.
- Working knowledge of design control documentation, engineering change control, risk‑based decision making, and cross‑functional product development practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead small to moderate technical workstreams, coordinate cross‑functional input, mentor less‑experienced team members, and influence without direct authority.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information clearly and build consensus in complex or sensitive situations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and standard engineering documentation practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a regulated industry such as medical device, aerospace, or automotive.
- Experience with Design Control, DFM, GMP, FDA, ISO 9001, ISO 13485, risk management, or related quality system requirements.
- Experience supporting FDA 510(k) cleared medical devices or regulated product submissions.
- Intermediate to strong knowledge of material properties and associated processing techniques, including plastic injection molding, CNC machining, sheet metal forming or stamping, casting, and additive manufacturing.
- Experience with FMEA, fault tree analysis, risk analysis, usability or human‑factors considerations, component selection, reliability principles, value engineering, and design for assembly.
- Experience with basic machine shop equipment, 3D printing equipment, prototype fabrication, and fixture development.
- Formal project management, technical leadership, Lean, EBS, or continuous improvement training.
- Demonstrated interest or capability in developing people, improving team effectiveness, and preparing for a future management or technical leadership role.
Salary Range
$115,700 – $141,400 (actual compensation may vary based on experience, education, and geographic location).
