Job summary

Polaris EPC is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead the specification and design of stationary, rotating, and piping systems for oil and gas projects in the Lake Charles, LA area.

Responsibilities include developing metallurgy, data sheets, and stress analyses; coordinating with piping and process engineers; and creating RFQ docs and scopes of work. Requires a PE license, 5–10 years of relevant experience, and travel availability.

Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of experience specifying and designing mechanical equipment for stationary and rotating systems.
  • Licensed Professional Mechanical Engineer in at least one US state.
  • Thorough knowledge of pumps, heat exchangers, air coolers, furnaces, vessels, towers, etc. in petroleum sector.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience developing and managing schedules and budgets for engineering/design work.
  • Familiarity with API, ANSI, ASME, and NFPA codes.
  • Willingness for short-term travel.

  • Suggests piping routing modifications to reduce stress.
  • Develops RFQ documentation and bid tabs with client recommendations.
  • Develops mechanical engineering standards for capital projects.
  • Performs vessel design re-rating, nozzle loading, pump sizing (HP & NPSH).
  • Writes scope of work documents for mechanical/piping design plans.

Job description

I. Summary Of Position

Directly responsible for the specification and design of all project's mechanical equipment for both stationary, rotating, and piping design.



Ii. Responsibilities


  • Develops metallurgy for piping and mechanical equipment

  • Develops mechanical data sheets prepared in conjunction with Mechanical Engineers and the Process Engineering group

  • Develops piping stress analysis utilizing Caesar software

  • Works in conjunction with the piping group and suggests modifications to piping routing to reduce piping stress to acceptable levels

  • Develops "Request for Quote" documentation

  • Develops bid tabs and makes recommendations to the client for the purchase of mechanical equipment

  • Develops mechanical engineering standards for use on capital projects

  • Performs calculations for vessel design re-rating, nozzle loading, pump sizing, including motor horsepower and NPSH

  • Writes "scope of work" documents for mechanical/piping design plans



Iii. Minimum Qualifications


  • BS in Mechanical Engineering

  • 5-10 years' experience specifying and designing mechanical equipment for both stationary and rotating

  • Currently licensed in at least one US State as a Professional Mechanical Engineer

  • Thorough and detailed knowledge of all mechanical equipment – pumps, heat exchangers, air coolers, furnaces, vessels, towers, tower internals, etc. for the petroleum industry sector

  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written

  • Experienced in developing and managing schedules and budgets for engineering/design work

  • Familiarity with API, ANSI, ASME, and NFPA codes

  • Available for short-term travel



Iv. Reporting Requirements

Reports directly to the Mechanical Engineering Manager



V. Physical Requirements


  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift to 40 pounds at times

  • Periodic field work
