Job summary

Allied Engineering and Design in Swedesboro, NJ seeks a senior Mechanical Engineering Lead to steer a multidisciplinary team from concept through completion.

You will develop work plans, manage budgets, create equipment layouts, and perform hydraulic analyses (PipeFlo, Caesar II) to support bids and projects. Travel up to 20% and mentoring junior engineers are expected, with strong client-facing skills and CFR/B31.x knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • PE license preferred or ability to obtain within 6–12 months.
  • Minimum 10 years of piping and mechanical design experience, preferably in Oil & Gas.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Engineers and Designers from conception to completion.
  • Develop and maintain work plans, schedules, forecasting & budgets.
  • Create equipment layouts and design basis from concept through approval.
  • Develop steady-state hydraulic modeling for liquids and gases for pipe sizing and pump selection.
  • Support proposal writing and review efforts.
  • Interface with other departments to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Review and approve engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Participate in design reviews and select piping specifications for quality deliverables.
  • Develop technical bid evaluations and recommend equipment/components.
  • Coordinate with Piping Designers on 3D models and interdisciplinary reviews.
  • Lead client reviews and ensure CFR Parts 192/195, B31.3/4/8 compliance.
  • Develop construction scopes of work and cost estimates.

Job description

  • Lead a team of Mechanical Engineers and Designers and act as a knowledge resource for the team to execute projects from conception to completion.
  • Develop and maintain work plans, schedules/forecasting & budgets.
  • Create and develop a project design basis and equipment layout drawings from concept through approval.
  • Develop steady-state hydraulic modeling for liquids and gases for use in pipe sizing and pump selection.
  • Support proposal writing and review efforts.
  • Write and review department-specific procedures as necessary.
  • Interface and work with other departments to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Manage multiple multidisciplinary projects and prioritize based on client need.
  • Review and approve engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Participate in design reviews and selection of piping specifications to ensure the highest quality deliverables.
  • Develop specifications, data sheets, and drawing requirements for a complete RFQ package, approve vendor-supplied drawings and data for equipment packages including pumps, compressors, meter skids, provers, pressure vessels, tanks, pig traps, control valves and motor-operated valves.
  • Develop Technical bid evaluations and make recommendations on specific equipment and components.
  • Coordinate with Piping Designers and other discipline Designers on the development of project 3D models and interdisciplinary reviews.
  • Participate in client drawing and design reviews in accordance with industry codes and Company policies. Code of Federal Register (CFR), Parts 192 and 195 as well as B31.3, B31.4 and B31.8. Experience and/or certification as a facilitator is a plus.
  • Development of construction scopes of work to be utilized with construction bid packages.
  • Development of construction cost estimates.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Registered Engineer (P.E.) is preferred or the ability to obtain a license within 6-12 months.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in piping and mechanical design, preferably in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Experience leading a team of engineers and designers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to explain complex concepts to clients.
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor and help train less experienced designers and engineers.
  • Knowledge of PFDs and P&IDs is required.
  • Knowledge of the Code of Federal Register (CFR), Parts 192 and 195 as well as ASME B31.3, B31.4 and B31.8.
  • HAZOP/PHA experience and/or certification as a facilitator is a plus.
  • Experience performing steady-state hydraulic analysis; PipeFlo is a plus.
  • Knowledge of pipeline surge analysis; SPS is a plus.
  • Knowledge of pipe stress analysis; Caesar II is a plus.
  • The ability to work on two or more interdisciplinary projects at once while effectively managing time and prioritizing project deliverables.
  • Travel to job/client sites as needed (no more than 20%)
