Job summary

Selectek in Houston seeks an experienced Mechanical Engineer III to apply technical expertise in designing mechanical concepts aligned with project owners’ visions.

You will lead HVAC, plumbing and other systems, develop BIM drawings, coordinate with multiple disciplines, and ensure code-compliant, cost-effective solutions from design through construction.

The role includes mentoring junior designers and maintaining strong client relationships while delivering high-quality documentation on time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering design for commercial buildings.
  • Experience with design-build and fast-track delivery methods.
  • Revit proficiency; 2+ years coordinating with multi-discipline teams.
  • Ability to prepare original specifications and project manuals.

Responsibilities

  • Determine the scope of assigned projects and create mechanical designs including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection.
  • Determine cost-effective system layouts, quantities/sizes, and specifications, and verify code compliance of the system designs.
  • Prepare BIM drawings and coordinate with all disciplines through schematic design to construction documents phases.
  • Perform construction administration tasks including site observations, shop drawings review, and punch list preparation.
  • Define project scope and ensure it is reflected in the contract documents; manage scope variances to keep projects on track.
  • Maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships and communicate project status with all parties.
  • Support mentoring of junior mechanical designers.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our client’s growing team. Mechanical Engineer III will apply their professional and technical expertise to designing mechanical engineering concepts and options that align with the owner’s vision for each project. This individual should have a solid understanding of the consulting engineering process and the contractual documents which are involved.

Responsibilities
  • Determine the scope of assigned projects and utilize software programs to create the mechanical engineering designs including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection, or other mechanical systems
  • Determine cost-effective system layouts, quantities/sizes, and specifications, and verify code compliance of the system designs
  • Preparation and layout of BIM drawings and coordination with all other disciplines at all phases of project production, including schematic design phase, design development phase, permitting phase, and construction documents phase
  • Perform construction administration tasks including, but not limited to, site observations, shop drawing review, and preparation of punch lists
  • Define appropriate project scope and ensure it is accurately reflected in the contract documents; proactively manage any possible scope of work variances to ensure client satisfaction and that projects stay on track
  • Maintain excellent business relationships and communication with clients, partners, architects, owners, other design and construction professionals, and various code officials regarding the overall engineering project, associated assignments, and action items
  • Support with mentoring more inexperienced mechanical designers
  • Miscellaneous duties, as assigned

Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • 5 plus years of mechanical engineering design of commercial buildings
  • Preferably in aviation, higher education, health care, hospitality, or government facilities
  • Experience with a variety of project deliverable methods including design-build, design-bid-construct, fast-track and other construction delivery methods
  • Revit Proficiency 2 plus years of experience coordinating with multi discipline engineering teams
  • Ability to prepare original specifications for project systems and components, as well as complete project manuals with sub-consultant specifications
