Job summary

Fortastra Corporation is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to design, integrate, and build autonomous spacecraft systems. This hands‑on role covers CAD design to floor‑level integration, working with propulsion, avionics, GNC, and thermal teams to ensure a buildable, testable product.

Ideal candidates have strong CAD fundamentals, experience moving hardware from concept to assembly, and a desire to grow into broader ownership across the product lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• 2–5 years in mechanical design for high‑reliability systems such as spacecraft or robotics.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD tools and design for manufacturability.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to spacecraft mechanical configuration and system interfaces.
• Create and maintain CAD models for parts and assemblies (mounting hardware, brackets, panels).
• Support evolution of the overall CAD model under guidance from senior engineers.
• Identify basic mechanical interferences with harnessing, cabling, and sensors.
• Generate and release detailed drawings, BOMs, and documentation with revision control.
• Collaborate with propulsion, avionics, GNC, and thermal engineers on solutions.
• Work with manufacturing to ensure designs are fabricable and testable.
• Participate in floor bring‑up, fit checks, and hardware rework when needed.
