Job summary

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to join the Mission Systems Engineering IPT. You will design, analyze and document hardware components for DoD and government programs, interfacing with multi-disciplinary teams to drive robust solutions.

The role requires experience across product development phases and the ability to support production and fielded systems in a dynamic setting. Clearances and citizenship are required.

Qualifications

  • Experience designing and developing hardware, with exposure to concept through production stages.
  • Experience in mechanical design, product development, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools and product data management systems.
  • Ability to solve technically challenging problems under aggressive timelines.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain a DoD security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical design, development, analysis and documentation of components and assemblies per system requirements.
  • Provide support to production and suppliers during product integration.
  • Interface with engineers, managers, and analysts to develop design solutions and resolve challenges.
  • Support reviews and trade studies to inform technical decisions.

Mission Systems Engineering is a leader in the mechanical and electrical hardware design, development, and production of DoD and Government Communications Systems. The department supports customers for Land, Sea, and Airborne Programs for our US military and various international customers, keeping the world safe from foreign threats. The department is seeking motivated and driven mechanical engineers with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, analysis, integration and production support. As a Mechanical Engineer II, you will be a member of a multi-disciplinary Integrated Program Team (IPT) consisting of System, Hardware and Software Engineers. Your work can support development of next generation systems, design enhancements, upgrades for existing products, and transition to production efforts. Product areas can include circuit card assemblies, electronic assemblies, and reflector-type antennas for communications systems.

What You Will Do
  • You will perform mechanical design, development, analysis and documentation of components and assemblies in accordance with system requirements
  • You will provide support to production and suppliers during product integration
  • You will interface with the broader organization to develop design solutions and resolve technical challenges. This can include engineering managers, engineers, designers, and structural/thermal analysts, other disciplines, program management, suppliers, and external customers
  • You will support and participate in reviews and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions
  • You will apply knowledge and experience in technical problem solving and hardware development in a fast paced, team environment undefined
Qualifications
  • Experience designing and developing hardware, with some exposure to the different phases of product development (concept design, detailed design, production, product support)
  • Experience in mechanical design, product development, material selection, and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with CAD design tools and associated product data management tools
  • Experience solving technically challenging problems within aggressive timelines
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with design, fabrication, and integration of electronic assemblies, circuit card assemblies, structural components, equipment packaging and layout, and military defense systems
  • CREO CAD system experience and PDM or similar product data management tools
  • Previous experience with structural and/or thermal analysis using ANSYS, Flotherm and/or other analytical tools
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and ASME Y14.5
  • Demonstrated hands‑on mechanical aptitude
  • Prior defense industry experience, designing and solving problems for high reliability systems operating within harsh military environments
  • Working knowledge of military and commercial design, materials, and process specifications
  • Experience diagnosing and resolving hardware issues during prototyping, production and test
  • ACTIVE Secret Security Clearance or HIGHER
  • Advanced degree in mechanical engineering

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD.
