As a Mechanical Engineer II on WHOOP’s Continuous Improvement Team, you will play a key role in designing product improvements at scale, sustaining high production yields, ensuring manufacturing stability based on customer feedback and evolving business needs. In this fast-paced, execution-driven environment, you will independently develop creative mechanical solutions while exercising strong technical judgment. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams across Electrical, Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality to bring innovative concepts to life within the flagship product, supporting prototyping, design, and testing. You will also partner closely with global suppliers and contract manufacturers to execute validation builds, with a focus on high-quality deliverables, effective risk management, clear communication, and product excellence. WHOOP operates with urgency because our mission demands it. We build products for people who push their limits - and we hold ourselves to the same standard. If you're energized by complex challenges, cross-functional collaboration, and the opportunity to ship hardware at scale, this role will push you - and reward you.

Responsibilities
  • Own critical parts of current generation Whoop Hardware Products
  • Design, prototype, and test complex mechanical components around microelectronics, meeting stringent technical, performance, and industrial design requirements to guide projects from concept through manufacturing release
  • Develop and present multiple design solutions for novel and complex technical challenges, articulating them clearly to cross-functional teams and documenting design process and specifications thoroughly
  • Generate technical documentation such as 3D files, 2D drawings, bills of material (BOM's), and Engineering Change Orders (ECO's) following product development cycle timeline
  • Communicate engineering requests and conduct DfM reviews to vendors and contract manufacturers as the product development cycle progresses
  • Own and drive second sourcing initiatives for mechanical components and assemblies to diversify the supply base and reduce manufacturing risk
  • Support planning and execution of verification and validation plans, leveraging design of experiments (DOE) methodologies to drive understanding, uncover insights, and deliver actionable results that enhance product quality, performance, and manufacturability
  • Perform root-cause analysis and implement design improvements for quality, reliability, and performance enhancements
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to evaluate new technologies and manufacturing methods
  • Up to 20% travel to contract manufacturers and suppliers internationally
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in the design of complex mechanical products, preferably for consumer electronics, wearables, or medical devices
  • Experience with SolidWorks CAD best practices, including advanced assemblies, tolerance analysis, configuration management, and applying DFx/DfM feedback
  • Familiarity with second sourcing, supplier qualification, and risk mitigation strategies in manufacturing
  • Hands-on experience in operating and maintaining rapid prototyping tools to craft proof-of-concept models
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working with cross-functional teams and external partners
  • Experience in high-quality consumer electronics or wearable technologies preferred
  • Familiarity with validation testing methods and statistical analysis tools preferred
  • Experience with high-volume manufacturing processes (e.g., plastic injection molding, sheet metal design, metal injection molding), manual assembly, and complex testing fixture design preferred
  • Working experience in a fast-paced or startup environment preferred
  • A passion for health, or wearable technologies; and designing human-centered solutions in this space
