Job summary

ICON is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support Strategic R&D efforts in 3-D printed robotics for military applications. This onsite role is based in ICON's Austin, TX laboratories and reports to the Senior Director of Defense R&D Programs.

You will develop electro-mechanical designs, participate in trade studies, and deliver hardware to end customers within a fast-paced agile environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet OKRs.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience designing mechanical system elements including electromechanical systems and/or robotics.
• Affinity for hands-on work outdoors supporting robotic application and feasibility testing.
• Experience in R&D product development environments, developing products that utilize and integrate with cutting edge technologies.
• Strong mechanical design and integration skills using 3D CAD tools, preferably Solidworks.
• Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
• Strong understanding of DFM principles.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to robotic platform development for construction, focusing on motion platforms and dynamic fluid systems.
• Design and create prototypes using in-house and external fabrication.
• Specify servo-driven actuators using industry standards for motion robotics and large-format actuators.
• Provide hands-on troubleshooting and build support within an AGILE development cycle.
• Create design solutions utilizing engineering methods with strong documentation processes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional team to procure, fabricate, test, and deploy hardware.
• Support and take direction from the Lead Mechanical Engineer and senior engineers.
• Perform a wide range of tasks daily.
• Establish individual and team goals consistent with OKRs.
