Job summary

Wilder Systems seeks a Mechanical Engineer to join our Seattle design team, tackling challenging aerospace robotics projects and designing multi-position electromechanical assemblies for drilling, probing, and filling aerospace holes.

You will collaborate with senior engineers on system design, detailed mechanical drawings, manufacturing documentation, and production support, using SolidWorks (and CATIA as needed) to deliver reliable components.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience
• Hands-on aerospace robotics or automation experience
• Strong proficiency with SolidWorks CAD software
• Part drawing generation and attention to detail
• Knowledge of GD&T and Design for Manufacturing techniques
• Strong familiarity with metals fabrication
• Intermediate level of basic machinery design and engineering mechanics

Responsibilities

• Product Design: analyze requirements, define problems, and set objectives; provide practical design feedback; generate calculations and trade studies; lead design and development to TRL readiness; perform CAD work.
• Manufacturing Support: create part/assembly drawings for machine shops; generate work orders; provide QA and assembly support.
• Documentation: develop part drawings, BOMs, work instructions, and maintenance docs; provide diagrams for reviews and proposals.
• Travel up to 25%.

Job description

Wilder Systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Seattle design strike team, working alongside senior engineers on our toughest mechanical design challenges — including designing multi-position electromechanical assemblies for drilling, probing, and filling aerospace holes. Specific tasks include system design, detailed mechanical design and analysis, manufacturing drawing creation, procurement, and production support across all levels of the company.

The ideal candidate has strong fundamentals in mechanical design, enjoys challenging problems, and comes in with hands-on aerospace robotics experience.

Responsibilities

Product Design

• Analyze requirements and statement of works to clearly define problems and objectives to work against
• Provide feedback with practical design approaches through real world applications and examples
• Generate calculations and matrices to support design decisions -free body diagrams, mechanical load and life cycle, and trade studies of decisions
• Lead design and development of products and tools to a technical readiness level to deploy in a production or research environment
• Conduct all design duties using computer aided design software

Manufacturing Support

• Generate part and assembly drawings for machine shops and integrators to fabricate
• Generate work orders for Wilder Systems technicians to assemble designed products and tools
• Provide quality assurance and assembly support for the technicians

Documentation

• Develop documents covering part drawings, bill of materials, work instructions, maintenance, and functionality of product
• Provide diagrams and information to support design reviews and product proposals

Required Experience

• 4 or more years of professional experience in mechanical engineering or a related field
• Prior hands-on experience in aerospace robotics or automation
• Highly proficient use of Solidworks CAD software
• Part drawing generation and attention to detail
• Knowledge of GD&T and Design for Manufacturing Techniques
• Strong familiarity with metals fabrication
• Intermediate level of basic machinery design - includes design process, engineering mechanics and materials, failure prevention, and characteristics of the principal types of mechanical elements

Preferred Experience

• Automation and robotic work experience
• Finite Element Analysis
• Background knowledge of CATIA
• Product Data Management Software
• Generating Bills of Material
• Experience designing multi-position electromechanical assemblies for drilling, probing, or filling operations; familiarity with linear rails, actuators, or closed-loop position sensing a plus
