Job summary

Amazon is seeking a talented and motivated Mechanical Engineer to design, build, and launch novel robotics hardware. The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanism design, prototyping, and integration of robotic subsystems.

The role involves designing components for robotic hand, forearm, and actuators, generating drawings and BOMs, and collaborating with electrical and software teams to meet system requirements. Strong hands-on testing and documentation are essential.

Qualifications

• BS degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• 3+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
• SolidWorks or equivalent CAD experience and understanding of best practices for part design and advanced assemblies.
• Experience with prototyping methods (CNC machining, 3D printing, sheet metal).
• Familiarity with gears, bearings, fasteners, seals, actuators.
• Hands-on experience assembling and testing mechanical hardware.

Responsibilities

• Design and detail mechanical components and assemblies for robotic hand, forearm, and actuator systems using CAD (SolidWorks or equivalent).
• Generate engineering drawings, BOMs, and assembly documentation to support prototype builds.
• Support prototype fabrication, assembly, and integration of multi-DOF robotic mechanisms.
• Perform tolerance analysis, material selection, and basic structural/thermal calculations to inform design decisions.
• Collaborate with electrical, firmware, and controls engineers to ensure mechanical designs meet system-level requirements.
• Conduct hands-on testing, failure analysis, and design iteration based on test results.
• Maintain clear engineering documentation (design reports, test procedures, change logs).

Key Job Responsibilities

Basic Qualifications

• BS degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
• 3+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience
• Knowledge of SolidWorks or similar CAD experience and understanding of best practices for part design, and advanced assemblies
• Experience with prototyping methods (CNC machining, 3D printing, sheet metal)
• Familiarity with common mechanical components: gears, bearings, fasteners, seals, actuators
• Hands-on experience assembling and testing mechanical hardware

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools
• Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
• Experience in robotics, mechatronics, or precision mechanism design
• Knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
• Exposure to FEA tools (ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation, or equivalent)
• Experience managing vendor relationships for prototype or low-volume production parts
• Familiarity with tendon-driven mechanisms, compliant mechanisms, or multi-DOF linkages
• Experience working in a lab/protoshop environment alongside electronics and firmware teams

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
