Job summary

CesiumAstro is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to design and develop hardware for satellites and aerospace systems. You will lead concept to detailed design, perform thermal and structural analyses, and ensure EMC/EMI compliance while collaborating with electrical engineers and program teams.

You will contribute to packaging, thermal management, and mechanical qualification, with opportunities to present reviews to customers and leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) and minimum of 2-5 years of industry experience in design and analysis OR Master of Science (MS) and 0-3 years of industry experience in design and analysis.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, or AutoCAD.
  • Practical understanding of DFM/DFMA implications of material and process selection.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, drafting standards, and engineering documentation practices.
  • Experience with Engineering analysis tools such as ANSYS, MATLAB, or similar.
  • Experience with CNC manufacturing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical designs of Cesium products through all phases of the development process.
  • Responsible for mechanical designs from initial concept through requirements definition, detailed design, simulation, and manufacturing.
  • Support qualification, testing, and in-orbit troubleshooting of Cesium hardware.
  • Present engineering design review materials to customers and leadership.

In this position, you will be responsible for mechanical designs of Cesium products through all phases of the development process. The ideal candidate will be proficient in electronics packaging design, mechanical simulations and analyses, computer-aided design (CAD), spacecraft mechanical interfaces, and environmental qualification of electronic assemblies.

As a Cesium mechanical team member, you will be responsible for mechanical designs from initial concept design through requirements definition, detailed design, simulation, analysis, manufacturing, testing, qualification, and in-orbit support of Cesium's products. The ideal candidate will have skills and experience that include thermal management design, precision machining principles, thermal simulation and analysis, shock and vibration simulation and analysis, electromagnetic interference/compatibility (EMI/EMC) mitigation techniques, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), finite element analysis (FEA), and cost analysis to develop, validate, and optimize mechanical designs.

The successful candidate may also present engineering design review materials to our customers and leadership team - excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Job Requirements And Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Experience
  • Familiarity with electronics assemblies and experience working closely with electrical engineers.
  • Aerospace industry design, development, qualification, and aerospace manufacturing processes
  • Experience in electronics packaging, including thermal, vibration, and stress dynamics or in spacecraft structures and mechanisms
  • Experience with EMI/EMC mitigation techniques.
