Job summary

Sunstall Inc. is seeking a Design Engineer II to support engineering and preconstruction coordination. The role involves managing multiple aspects of a project from initial design through completion with minimal supervision.

You will design HVAC/plumbing systems, develop ductwork layouts, review drawings, and ensure compliance with specifications and codes while coordinating with cross-functional teams and clients. This position requires site visits and occasional travel.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years’ experience in the commercial construction space.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate preferred, but not required.
• Excellent understanding of engineering fundamentals.
• Working knowledge of system types, equipment, installation standards and procedures is necessary.
• Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate with others is essential.
• Must be fully versed in local and State building codes.
• Proficiency in Trace700, AutoCAD Version2023 and other design software.
• Revit2024 or BIM experience is preferred.
• Prior experience with mechanical contractor or engineering consultant preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design complex HVAC and/or Plumbing systems, including load calculations, energy modeling, and equipment selection.
• Develop detailed ductwork and piping layouts and ensure compliance with project specifications.
• Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, and submittals for accuracy and completeness.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.
• Provide input during project planning and execution phases to optimize designs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve design challenges and improve outcomes.
• Participate in design-build meetings and client presentations to present the engineering team.
• Conduct site visits to verify design feasibility, gather data, and oversee installation quality.
• Assist with resolving technical issues during construction and commissioning phases.
• Evaluate existing mechanical systems and recommend improvements or upgrades.
• Ensure all designs adhere to codes, standards, and regulations.
• Stay informed of advancements in HVAC technology, codes, and industry best practices.
