Job summary

Orbital Robotics seeks a Mechanical Engineer I to drive hardware development from concept to flight-ready hardware for space robotics. You will design, integrate, and test robotic systems, including multi-DOF arms, applying structural and thermal analyses to ensure performance in extreme on-orbit environments.

You will work with 3D CAD, prototyping tools, Linux/Python, and collaborate across disciplines, with on-site work in Madison, AL and occasional travel to Seattle.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline from an ABET accredited university.
• 0-2 years of hands-on hardware development experience in mechanical design or robotics.

Responsibilities

• Drive cradle-to-grave hardware development lifecycles from prototyping to flight-ready integration.
• Design and integrate robotic hardware for on-orbit applications, focusing on multi-DOF arms and end effectors.
• Perform structural & thermal analysis (FEA) for extreme on-orbit environments.
• Translate CAD models into physical reality: assemble, integrate, troubleshoot hardware.
• Support qualification testing (TVAC, shock, vibration).
