Job summary

RTX is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to support airborne, ground, and tactical platforms in proposal, LRIP, production and support phases. This on-site role requires collaboration with designers, suppliers, PDEs, POLs, MCAD, SCM, PMO, and other disciplines.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM field and relevant experience with mechanical components and aerospace applications.

Responsibilities

• Understand program requirements and SOWs to determine component environmental / characteristic application requirements.

• Perform alternate part investigations and generate comparison matrices showing differences and similarities.
• Interface with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to develop component risk and verification delineation.
• Facilitate component selection and BOM in a collaboration toolset.
• Present component standardization, design library, obsolescence management and termination finish risk results in design reviews for a program.

What You Will Do

The Mechanical Engineer I will assist in the performance of Components Engineering or Applications Engineering tasks supporting airborne, ground, and tactical platforms/programs in the proposal, Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP), production and support phases. This position will require day-to-day interface with designers, suppliers, Product Development Engineers (PDE), Parts Obsolescence Lead/Managers (POL), Mechanical Computer Aided Design (MCAD), Supply Chain Management (SCM), Program Management Office (PMO), and other disciplines. This role also entails supporting components approval through a Parts and Materials Control Board (PMCB) comprised of members both internal to Raytheon and from customer organizations. Some travel to integration sites, customer facilities, and subcontractor facilities may be required.

Key Responsibilities

• Understand program requirements and Statements of Work (SOWs) to determine program component environmental / characteristic application requirements.
• Provide technology insertion and parts selection/standardization guidance while adhering to business, component parametric, and environmental application constraints.
• Generate and revise component drawings and associated verification data packages.
• Perform alternate part investigations and generate comparison matrices showing the differences and similarities of the parts.
• Interface with multiple internal stakeholders and external suppliers/manufacturers to develop component risk and verification delineation.
• Facilitate component selection and libraries application through the coordination and generation of the program Bill of Material (BOM) in a collaboration toolset.
• Present component standardization, design library, obsolescence management and termination finish risk results in support of design reviews for a program.

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) major obtained by start date.
• Experience with interconnect devices, fasteners, or other mechanical-based components.
• Experience of component selection, screening, qualification, and derating for use in military and aerospace flight applications.

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Experience with the use or adaptation of Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) products in a military system.
• Experience with development, design and project level responsibility on systems or major subsystems.
• Experience working with external suppliers and supplier technical management.

The salary range for this role is 57,200 USD - 108,800 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
