Job description

Job Summary

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to join our Equipment Engineering team. In this role, you will design, build, and test custom tools, fixtures, and equipment used in our manufacturing and engineering operations. You will work throughout the entire development process-from creating CAD models and manufacturing drawings, to quoting and ordering components, hands-on assembly and testing, and ultimately transferring equipment into production.

Working alongside mechanical, electrical, controls, and software engineers, you will contribute to the development of innovative manufacturing equipment and practical solutions to real-world engineering challenges. This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop both mechanical design skills and hands-on equipment engineering experience in a collaborative manufacturing environment.

Our team values engineers who enjoy building things, solving problems, and seeing their designs become real equipment. You will have the opportunity to work directly with machinery, components, tools, and production processes while developing your engineering skills alongside experienced members of the Equipment Engineering team.

Responsibilities
  1. Design and develop custom tools, fixtures, mechanisms, and mechanical components using 3D CAD.
  2. Create detailed manufacturing drawings for machined, fabricated, and purchased components.
  3. Collaborate with engineers and manufacturing personnel to develop practical designs that can be fabricated, assembled, and maintained effectively.
  4. Participate in quoting, ordering, fabrication, assembly, inspection, and testing of tools, fixtures, and equipment.
  5. Assist with the design, assembly, commissioning, troubleshooting, and validation of larger custom manufacturing equipment.
  6. Read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, schematics, and electrical wiring diagrams, and assist with equipment wiring and integration.
  7. Support the transfer of completed tools, fixtures, and equipment into production and help resolve issues identified during implementation.
  8. Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, reliability, safety, and manufacturability.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Familiarity with mechanical drawings, GD&T, dimensions, tolerances, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, machining, fabrication, welding, 3D printing, or other manufacturing processes.
  • Experience building or working with mechanical systems, machinery, automation, or other physical equipment.
  • Familiarity with electrical schematics, wiring, or basic electrical systems is a plus.
  • Exposure to industrial automation, controls, PLCs, or other manufacturing equipment is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an interest in developing practical solutions to real-world engineering problems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, technicians, and manufacturing personnel.
  • A hands-on mindset and willingness to work directly with equipment, tools, and components.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a closely related field, or currently pursuing a related degree.
  • 0-2 years of relevant engineering, manufacturing, design, or hands-on technical experience.
  • Relevant academic projects, personal projects, technical training, or hands-on experience will be considered.
  • Candidates who are currently pursuing a degree and have strong hands-on experience and a demonstrated interest in mechanical design and manufacturing are encouraged to apply.
