Role summary

RTX is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to contribute to aerospace and defense programs. This role involves mechanical design and delivery of solutions for military and commercial environments, with a focus on electronics packaging. Responsibilities include thermal and structural design/analysis, component design, PWB processes, fabrication methods, RF isolation design, and environmental testing. Requires a STEM Bachelor's degree and coursework/experience in core engineering principles and specific areas like Conformal Antenna Array Packaging. Preferred qualifications include experience with product development lifecycles, CREO, FEA for structural/thermal analysis, and electronics packaging/cabling.

What You Will Do

The Mechanical Engineer I is an important technical contributor to the programs and products supported by the department. Responsibilities involve working together with more senior team members in the mechanical design and delivery of solutions for challenging military and commercial environments. This role involves electronics packaging design. Assignments may involve thermal and structural design and analysis, electrical component design, construction and failure modes, printed wiring board and circuit card assembly processes and best practices, surface mount and through hole component installation processes and failure modes, metal fabrication and finishing methods, RF isolation mechanical design, and environmental test methods and equipment.

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) obtained by start date.
  • Coursework and/or experience with the following: Calculus, Differential Equations, Physics (calculus based), Statics, Dynamics, Mechanics of materials, Thermodynamics, Heat transfer
  • Experience in Conformal Antenna Array Packaging.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Coursework and/or experience with any of the following: Mechanical engineering within a product development lifecycle in design, packaging, manufacturing support, and/or hardware integration and testing.
  • Creating and documenting mechanical designs in CREO or similar modeling tools.
  • Structural and thermal analysis using FEA modeling techniques.
  • Electronics packaging, cabling and harness design, and printed wiring board designs and routing.

The salary range for this role is 62,900 USD - 119,700 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance. This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
