Job summary

Gray AES seeks a Mechanical Engineer-MEP to join our team across multiple offices, including Dallas, TX. The role focuses on mechanical design for industrial and commercial projects with BIM workflows and code compliance.

The candidate will lead design efforts, perform load calculations, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and mentor junior engineers while traveling up to 25% to project sites.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Professional Engineering License is required.
  • 5 to 7 years of mechanical design experience in industrial or commercial projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in Bluebeam and 3D building modeling software (Revit) with BIM workflows.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with IBC, ASHRAE, NFPA and client-specific design requirements.
  • Ability to perform load calculations and cost analysis using appropriate software.
  • Strong MS Office skills, esp. Excel for cost modeling and analysis.
  • Demonstrated leadership in mentoring junior engineers and design teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design efforts for assigned projects, ensuring code compliance.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated solutions.
  • Perform advanced heating/cooling load calculations and energy code compliance assessments.
  • Collaborate with owner and project team to ensure cost-effective designs and value engineering.
  • Use BIM and AutoCAD to incorporate designs into models and drawings.
  • Select and specify mechanical equipment; design air distribution and piping systems.
  • Develop control drawings and system diagrams.
  • Update and maintain engineering design standards.
  • Conduct design calculations to ensure code compliance and client specs.
  • Review contractor RFIs, shop drawings, and product submittals; ensure design intent.
  • Participate in client meetings and design reviews with technical input.
  • Support development of internal design standards and best practices.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge sharing.

Who We Want…
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) from an accredited college or university.

  • Review and respond to contractor RFIs, shop drawings, and product submittals, ensuring design intent is maintained.
  • Participate in client meetings and design reviews, providing technical input and supporting project delivery.
  • Support the development and refinement of internal design standards and best practices.
  • Assist in mentoring junior engineers and designers, contributing to team growth and knowledge sharing.
  • Other duties as assigned.
