Job summary

US Army Corps of Engineers in North Dakota seeks a Mechanical Engineer to support the operations and maintenance of dams and hydro plants. You will work with turbines and generators, developing plans and cost estimates for replacement of mechanical equipment.

You will conduct field visits, direct preventive maintenance, troubleshoot equipment, and review design memos to ensure technical accuracy. This is a hands-on engineering role requiring strong analytical and project coordination skills.

Qualifications

• Degree in engineering meeting ABET accreditation criteria or equivalent, or combination of education and experience
• Experience with mechanical systems in power generation or industrial plants is preferred
• Strong knowledge of design, analysis, and project management for mechanical equipment

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering duties for mechanical systems for dams and hydro plants, including turbines and generators
• Develop engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates for replacement of mechanical equipment
• Develop and direct comprehensive operating maintenance and repair programs
• Conduct field visits to provide technical direction for preventive maintenance and repairs
• Troubleshoot unusual equipment malfunctions and direct repair efforts for mechanical failures
• Develop operations and maintenance criteria for mechanical system upgrades, including submitting work order requests, cost estimates, and project ranking
• Review design memos and contract designs for technical accuracy and completeness
