Job summary

KPFF Special Projects Division is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 3–6 years of experience for our Seattle or Tacoma offices. The role focuses on heavy civil, structural, and machinery design within a dynamic team environment.

Applicants should hold a BS in Mechanical Engineering, be EIT certified, and demonstrate proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD/Revit. This position offers collaboration with project teams, ongoing learning, and a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
  • EIT certification required.
  • Exposure to project engineering and project management.
  • Understanding core mechanical concepts: machine design, statics, dynamics, kinematics, fluid mechanics, strength of materials.
  • Familiarity with force analysis (free-body, shear/bending/moment).
  • Knowledge of stress analysis and exposure to FEA.
  • Familiarity with weldments and bearings/pins design.
  • Kinematic and dynamic analysis of machinery; hydraulic power systems; motors and drives.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks; familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Ability to collaborate with project team and clients; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support mechanical engineering design and project execution for Seattle/Tacoma projects.
  • Contribute to machine design and analysis across heavy civil and waterfront infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver drawings and specifications.

Engineering - Mechanical 3-6 Yrs. Exp.(Special Projects–Seattle/Tacoma)

KPFF's Special ProjectsSeattleand Tacomaoffices arepartof adynamic150+person group that providescivil engineering and planning, structural engineering, mechanical engineering and machine design,andproject management. We provide these services on a wide range of project typesthroughall stages of development.

Typical project types include:

  • Moveable vehicle and pedestrian bridges and other heavy moveable structures
  • Doors foraircrafthangars and other large buildings
  • Ports, harbors,shipyardsand other industrial waterfront projects
  • Rail Locomotive Maintenance Facility Infrastructure

Physical demands and work environment:

  • Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
  • Occasionallymay berequiredto lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs.
  • Occasionally visiting project locations and performing indoor/outdoor field observations, which may involve walking, standing, kneeling, climbing stairs/ladders and navigating uneven terrain.
Qualifications

Our ideal candidates would have:

  • Bachelorof Sciencein Mechanical Engineering
  • EIT isrequired.
  • Exposure toproject engineering and project management.
  • Understanding ofcore mechanical engineering concepts,including machine design principles, statics, dynamics, kinematics, fluid mechanics, and strength of materials.
  • Familiarity with force analysis including free-body diagrams and shear/bending/moment diagrams.
  • Knowledge of stress analysis, including exposure to finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Familiarity with design of weldments.
  • Familiarity with design / specification of bearings,pinsand other standard machinery components.
  • Familiarity with kinematic and dynamic analysis of machinery.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic power systems.
  • Familiarity with electric motors, electronic drives, and controls.
  • Familiarity with industrial process piping and pumps.
  • Familiarity with Bulk Materials Handling and Storage.
  • Proficiencyin SolidWorks including parts modeling, assembly creation, and drawing production.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project team members and clients on a variety of projects.
  • Detailoriented anddesirefor continued learning.
  • Clear communication and writing skills.

Compensation:

The total compensation for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, and skills. The expected total compensation range for a qualified candidate is $90,000 - $110,000 including performance-based bonuses to recognize and reward outstanding contributions in each Reporting Center. During the interview process, we'll provide detailed information and address any questions you may have about the overall compensation package and benefits.
