Job summary

S-E-A is seeking a mechanical engineer with a strong CAD background to join our forensic engineering team in Charlotte, NC. You will lead field investigations, create detailed CAD models, and perform analyses to establish proven conclusions for investigations.

Required is a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with strong communication skills and a drive to pursue professional licensure. Willingness to travel to sites and participate in ongoing forensic training is expected.

Qualifications

• B.S in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• E.I.T. Certification preferred.
• Ability to obtain P.E. registration through testing within 24 months.
• Prior forensic industry experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field investigations and perform failure/accident analyses on incidents involving vehicles and mechanical equipment.
• Create CAD layouts, diagrams, 2D drawings and 3D models.
• Perform camera matching and video analysis with simulation software.
• Perform calculations, engineering analyses, and technical reporting.
• Investigate design, safety and failure of machinery and mechanical systems.
• Provide clear technical findings in writing and verbally.
• Attend workshops to maintain knowledge and integrate feedback into performance.
• Review publications and participate in professional societies.
• Maintain regular office presence during training.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

• Conduct field investigations and perform failure/accident analysis on incidents involving all types of vehicles and related mechanical equipment
• Create engineering CAD layouts, diagrams, graphics, 2D drawings and 3D models
• Perform camera matching and video analysis with simulation software
• Perform calculations, engineering analysis, computer analyses and simulations, and technical reporting
• Investigate design, safety and failure of machinery and mechanical systems
• Provide technical findings and conclusions in layman's terms, both verbally and in writing
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops
• Accept and integrate constructive feedback into job performance
• Review professional publications, establish personal networks and participate in professional societies
• Regular and predictable physical presence in the office during training, with the exception of sites

Position Requirements

• B.S in Mechanical Engineering required
• E.I.T. Certification preferred
• Ability to obtain P. E. registration through testing within 24 months
• NHTSA, Forensic, Racing, Vehicle Safety, or Manufacturing background or interest is a plus
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
• Public speaking experience is a plus
