Job summary

RectorSeal is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to act as a key technical contact across multiple firestop product lines. You will guide product selection, installation, and engineering judgments for unique site conditions, with occasional onsite visits.

Based in the Houston Fire Test Lab, this hybrid role requires 3-4 on-site days per week. Key responsibilities include training, coordinating with customers and distributors, and supporting certification efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
• 1 year of engineering experience required.
• Preferred: 3 years in firestop industry and 5 years in construction.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and read project requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance on firestop products and applications.
• Serve as a technical liaison between internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Respond to technical inquiries from sales, distributors, and installers.
• Assist customers with product selection based on project requirements.
• Develop Engineering Judgments (EJs) for non-standard field conditions.
• Conduct jobsite visits to evaluate firestop applications and resolve issues.
• Support product certification efforts and document testing.
• Troubleshoot technical issues in firestop installations.
• Deliver training and technical support to staff and customers.
• Stay current on firestop technologies, testing standards, and building codes.
• Perform competitive analysis to support product development.

Job Overview

RectorSeal is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to serve as a key technical contact across multiple firestop product lines. This role supports both internal teams and external clients by providing expert guidance on product selection, installation, and engineering judgments for unique site conditions. Occasional onsite visits may be required to resolve complex field issues. This role will be based at our Houston Fire Test Lab, located in Central Houston, Texas. This will be a hybrid role requiring an on-site presence 3-4 times per week at the Lab or the Regional Houston office.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise and training with a focus on firestop products and applications.
• Act as a technical liaison between internal teams and external stakeholders, including customers, distributors, contractors, and inspectors.
• Respond to technical calls and emails from internal sales teams, distributors, and installers.
• Assist customers with product selection based on project requirements and firestop conditions.
• Provide installation recommendations and develop Engineering Judgments (EJs) for unique or non-standard field conditions.
• Conduct jobsite visits to evaluate firestop applications and assist with problem resolution.
• Support product certification efforts, including in-house firestop testing and documentation.
• Troubleshoot and identify root causes of technical issues in firestop installations.
• Ensure timely and accurate responses to technical inquiries regarding the use and application of RectorSeal firestop products.
• Deliver training and technical support to both internal staff and external customers.
• Stay current on firestop technologies, industry testing standards, building codes, and relevant regulations.
• Conduct competitive analysis of firestop products and systems to support product development and market positioning.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering
• 1 year of recent engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications

• 3 years of experience in the firestop industry (e.g., fire testing, installation, inspection)
• 5 years of experience in the construction industry
• Ability to interpret technical drawings
• Familiarity with AutoCAD or SolidWorks
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Passion for customer experience and problem solving
