Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with strong HVAC design experience to develop conceptual designs, equipment plans, and BMS control philosophies for multi‑discipline building projects. You will perform load calculations, create airflow diagrams, and help manage project budgets and schedules.

The role requires a PE license or the ability to obtain within 1 year, 4+ years of HVAC design experience, and proficiency in Revit and energy modeling tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering.
  • PE license or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment.
  • 4+ years of HVAC/Mechanical design experience (DoD/Defense preferred).
  • Experience in a multi-discipline environment.
  • Experience with Revit and load calculation/energy modeling software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop conceptual and design documentation for HVAC/utility systems.
  • Create equipment, piping, and distribution plans including BMS control philosophy and sequences of operations.
  • Perform load calculations and energy modeling.
  • Review submittals, respond to RFIs, and conduct field visits to verify construction.
  • Lead and mentor staff, coordinate with RevIt designers, and travel as required.

Your role will include

Developing overall Conceptual and Basis of Design level design approaches and documentation. Developing HVAC and plant utility systems philosophies. Developing mechanical / utility equipment and construction specifications. Performing temperature / humidity control / utility load calculations. Developing airflow diagrams, pressurization plans, and classification, as well as ductwork and piping plans. Developing equipment plans, plant utility distribution plans, and system details. Developing building management system (BMS) control philosophy, details, and Sequence of Operations.

Performing construction assistance in the form of submittal reviews, RFI responses, and field visits to verify construction of Mechanical / Utilities scope is executed per the intent of the design and assisting in start‑up of systems when required. Directing activities of Revit Designers as well as use Revit when necessary. Managing and developing mechanical / utilities scope for project budgets and schedules. Traveling as required for client development and project implementation.

Here’s what you’ll need
  • Bachelor’sDegree in Mechanical engineering
  • ProfessionalEngineer (P.E.) license (or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment)
  • At least4years relevant professional experience for HVAC/Mechanical buildings‑related design projects (Federal including DoD, Federal Civilian and/or Defense Contractor project experience preferred)
  • Experience working in a multi‑discipline environment
  • Experience with Revit
  • Proficiency in load calculation / energy modeling software such as Trane Trace 700, Trace 3D Plus, Carrier HAP, etc
  • Knowledge of building codes & standards (International Mechanical Code, UFC’s etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • United States Citizenship
Ideally, you’ll also have
  • Experience leading project teams and mentoring junior staff
  • Experience designing hydronic heating and cooling systems including air cooled chillers, water cooled chillers, and hot water boiler systems
  • Experience with Navisworks and Bluebeam

The base salary range for this position is $90,000.00 to $120,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
