Job summary

Matrix Engineering Consultants, based in the United States, seeks a Mechanical Engineer - FEA to develop and validate structural designs for surface mining equipment using advanced FEA, testing, and engineering problem solving. You will perform nonlinear and modal analyses, review results, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure performance, durability, and manufacturability.

The role requires 3+ years in structural analysis, a related engineering degree, and proficiency with CAD

Qualifications

• Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or Agricultural Engineering or related degree.
• 3+ years of experience in structural analysis, mechanical design, or product development.
• Experience performing finite element analysis (FEA) on large mechanical systems or fabricated structures.
• Strong understanding of mechanics of materials, stress analysis, fatigue, and structural behavior.
• Experience validating analytical results through testing and instrumentation.
• Proficiency with CAD software and engineering drawing interpretation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within cross-functional engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural FEA analyses, including nonlinear and modal studies, and document results.
• Support and review structural analysis activities while providing design improvement recommendations.
• Validate designs through testing, strain gauge application, and correlation of analytical results.
• Perform engineering calculations using mechanics of materials and machine design principles.
• Develop and maintain structural design standards, analysis methods, and best practices.
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, production, purchasing, and customer-facing teams to ensure designs meet quality, performance, and project requirements.
• Participate in design reviews and provide technical support throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Support timely project execution by coordinating with engineers, supervisors, and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Investigate structural issues and assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions.

Mechanical Engineer - FEA

This position supports the development and validation of structural designs for surface mining equipment through advanced finite element analysis, testing, and engineering problem solving. The engineer will perform and review structural FEA studies, validate analytical results through strain gauge testing, develop technical design solutions, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure products meet performance, durability, quality, and manufacturing requirements.

Desired Attributes

• Experience with ANSYS for structural, nonlinear, fatigue, and modal analysis.
• Experience supporting heavy equipment, mining equipment, construction equipment, or other mobile machinery.
• Knowledge of welded steel fabrications, casting design, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with strain gauge selection, application, instrumentation, and data interpretation.
• Experience with Siemens NX (UG/NX) CAD software.
• Experience using Teamcenter or other Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
• Familiarity with industry standards applicable to mobile equipment structures.
• Experience mentoring or reviewing technical work of other engineers.

Pay Range: $80,000-$110,000 – Commensurate with experience
