Job Summary:

Create a commercially practical, technically sufficient, and economically sound design for an assigned product or unit based on predetermined mechanical characteristics. Responsible for performance requirements, weight and dimensional limits, and the working relationship of various design elements.

Responsibilities:
  1. Responsible for the arrangement of mechanical details and preparing initial design layouts.
  2. Assist in the preparation of final layouts and working drawings.
Requirements (Education, Experience, Travel, Physical, Work Environment):
Qualifications:
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the automotive industry.
  • Proficiency in problem solving techniques (e.g., 5 whys, root cause analysis) and statistical data analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills to interface with both hourly employees and management regarding manufacturing initiatives and progress.
  • High energy and a strong work ethic.
  • Good PC skills with knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend, and verbally communicate in English.
  • Ability to understand engineering drawings and layouts, and follow written or verbal instructions in English.
  • Effective presentation skills for one-on-one and small group situations.
Education and Experience:
  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 2 years of experience in the specialty vehicle or truck chassis manufacturing field.
  • Experience with CAD, Pro/Engineer, and MS Office Suite.
Physical Demands:

Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, sit, and talk or hear. Occasionally lift/move up to 40 lbs. Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment:

Indoor office setting; occasional work on the plant floor.

Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Safety glasses or prescription safety glasses with side shields.
  • Ear plugs.
  • Closed-toed shoes.
