Job summary

The University of South Carolina-Columbia Campus seeks a Mechanical Engineer to lead in-house HVAC, energy, and plumbing design initiatives under the Engineering Support division. This role emphasizes quality engineering, multi-disciplinary collaboration, and site-specific problem solving.

You will oversee multi-disciplinary teams, perform technical reviews of central energy plants, and ensure code compliance while coordinating with architectural and electrical disciplines.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of IMC, IPC, ASHRAE standards (90.1, 62.1) and NFPA standards.
• Ability to serve as a technical AHJ reviewer for campus mechanical permits and inspections.
• Strong background in CAD/BIM and energy analysis tooling.

Responsibilities

• Lead in-house mechanical engineering design efforts for HVAC, hydronic, steam and plumbing systems.
• Conduct thorough technical reviews of campus central energy plants and energy modeling.
• Coordinate designs across architectural, electrical, structural and civil disciplines.
• Perform field investigations to refine project scopes and ensure code compliance.
