Job summary

Silgan Plastic Food Containers seeks a Mechanical Engineer/Designer to support plant operations and new product development through part and machine design, testing, and technical support.

You will design prototype and production tooling, evaluate materials, and lead calibration and testing efforts while collaborating with teams to resolve issues and ensure safety. The role requires CAD proficiency and a hands-on approach to deliver reliable solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred or required in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Word/Excel/PowerPoint; teamwork and safety ownership are essential.
• Willingness to be hands-on to complete tasks or projects.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and trial prototype/production tooling for new products and improvements.
• Specify system components or modify products to meet design and performance specs.
• Research, evaluate, and oversee installation of mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes.
• Investigate material, equipment, and process failures and recommend improvements.
• Use CAD software to design and analyze parts and tooling.
• Conduct research testing feasibility and performance of plastics and equipment.
• Design test control apparatus and develop testing procedures.
• Support training needs analysis and maintain training records.
• Coordinate and facilitate employee problem solving teams.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and safety requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Product Development Manager.
