Bala Consulting Engineers in the DC metro area seeks a senior Mechanical Engineer Department Manager (MEP) to lead our Baltimore and Washington, DC area Mechanical Engineering Departments and coordinate enterprise-wide support.

Qualifications

• 10+ years’ experience in mechanical design (MEP).
• Team supervisory experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and PE license required.
• Skilled technical writer.
• Expert knowledge of building codes.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment with the ability to work individually or as part of a team.
• Knowledge of Sustainable certification programs.
• Strong software skills including Revit.

Responsibilities

• Lead the combined Baltimore and Washington, DC area Mechanical Engineering Departments and support enterprise-wide function.
• Answer questions and resolve issues from engineering staff.
• Create detailed engineering plans, processes, and procedures for staff to follow.
• Propose and oversee budgets and timelines for engineering projects.
• Check and confirm the accuracy of work and methods used by staff.
• Communicate and collaborate with managers, suppliers, and contractors.
• Prepare and deliver engineering-related presentations.
• Perform department management activities including recruitment, coaching, and leadership.

We are seeking a strong, experienced Mechanical Engineer (AEC/MEP) with leadership capability to lead our combined Baltimore and Washington, DC area Mechanical Engineering Departments and supporting the function enterprise-wide.

Primary responsibilities of the Mechanical Engineer Department Manager MEP

• Serve as an engineering leader and technical expert with the ability to answer questions and resolve issues brought forth by the engineering staff.
• Create detailed engineering plans, processes, and procedures for engineering staff to use and abide by.
• Propose and oversee budgets and timelines for engineering projects.
• Check and confirm the accuracy of the work performed and the methods used by engineering staff.
• Communicate and collaborate with other managers, suppliers, and contractors.
• Prepare and deliver various engineering-related presentations, both internally and externally.
• Perform department management activities including recruitment, hiring, coaching, and leadership.
