Job summary

WSP in Portland, ME is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Property and Buildings Team. You will assist with design, development, testing, and inspection of mechanical systems across infrastructure and building projects, ensuring compliance and quality.

The role involves data analysis, technical reporting, and collaboration with a cross-functional team to deliver practical, future-ready mechanical solutions. Some travel may be required, and a strong background in AutoCAD/Revit is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years of post-education experience in engineering discipline and prior mechanical design experience.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and related applications.
  • Experience with building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Knowledge of relevant mechanical system and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, compile, and analyze site data from surveys, blueprints, and drawings for project development and construction.
  • Perform professional mechanical engineering work and inspect proposed and existing site conditions for conformance with rules and permits.
  • Incorporate advanced technology and modeling techniques to design and plan equipment installation and operating strategies.
  • Provide technical assistance on automatic temperature control, air distribution, hydronic, and plumbing systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers and planners on projects with regulatory authorities and ensure compliance with designs and permits.
  • Prepare data visualizations, calculations, drawings, and reports for interpretation and decision-making.
