Job summary

Pronto is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer to own designs from prototype to assembly for autonomous haulage systems. You will install hardware on 100+ ton trucks and develop scalable documentation, with travel to customer sites up to 30 percent of the time.

The role emphasizes hands-on design, assembly, and field work, including sensor placement, drive-by-wire hardware, and cross-functional collaboration. Strong CAD experience and a background in heavy equipment are preferred.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional mechanical design experience.
• Automotive or heavy equipment experience preferred.
• Hands-on fabrication or machine shop experience a plus.
• Experience with 3D CAD design and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Apply mechanical engineering principles to develop and integrate drive-by-wire hardware including actuators and sensors.
• Travel to customer sites for development and initial installation of hardware systems (up to 30%).
• Develop bespoke solutions to customer-specific problems.
• Refine current hardware kits for scalable production.
• Develop hardware kits for new platforms.
• Create 2D and 3D CAD models of components and assemblies.
• Document design solutions with reports, drawings, BOMs, and installation instructions.
• Develop testing and validation procedures for electromechanical systems.
• Build prototypes using rapid prototyping methods (3D print, laser cut).
• Source components and manage vendors.
• Collaborate with a cross-functional team on system-level design.
