IST Precision Inc. is a machine design and manufacturing company in North Carolina that was established in 2001. We focus on precision instrumentation and automation equipment and have our own fabrication shop, machine design group, controls group, and panel shop.

We are seeking a full-time mechanical engineer with experience in machine design, build, and testing of mechanical/electrical equipment. The candidate will be responsible for working with our growing team in the design of 3D Solidworks solid models, working with manufacturing vendors, and running diagnostics and testing of machines assembled and built at our company.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
• 3-5 years of experience after university in engineering design, manufacturing processes, and/or R&D engineering with Solidworks CAD.
• US Citizenship required.
• Programming experience is a plus.
• Developing automation processes is considered a plus.
• Highly innovative, self‑motivated, and able to conduct research with minimal supervision.
• Flexibility and adaptability – Ability to manage multiple priorities and change as required.
• Experience interacting with personnel in research and manufacturing environments.
• Critical thinking and problem solving with strong attention to detail – Ability to question, analyze, evaluate, and synthesize information from multiple sources to provide recommendations on path forward and drive business decision making.
• Affinity for technology/technical understanding – Easily grasps new technical concepts; shows curiosity for technology.
• Willing to go above and beyond.
• Willing to work overtime during project deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong Solidworks CAD experience.
• Experience conducting engineering tests, prototype development, and design validation.
• Experience designing electromechanical systems and assemblies is a plus.
• Broad understanding of manufacturing processes including machining, fabrication, welding, assembly, and design for manufacturability.
• Experience working with sensors, actuators, motion systems, or instrumentation hardware.
• Basic programming experience using Python, MATLAB, C++, or similar engineering tools is a plus.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary engineering teams consisting of mechanical, electrical, and software engineers.
• Interest in advanced technology, automation, instrumentation, scientific equipment, and engineering innovation.
• Hands‑on experience diagnosing and troubleshooting electromechanical systems.
• Strong analytical, experimental, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work independently while contributing within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
