Job Description

Kett Engineering is assisting our client in Plymouth in their search for a Senior Engineer to integrate their NA vehicles.

The selected candidate will conduct high-level vehicle integration / engineering activities, including decision making related to product design. These activities include supporting drawing creation, engineering specification reviews, supplier issue resolution, engineering cost estimates, development timing, and testing support. The engineer will resolve issues independently, provide root cause analysis, lead design reviews, and support engineering changes, among other responsibilities. Additionally, the role involves providing engineering assistance to related departments and companies.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
  • Designs and integrates components for commercial vehicles, evaluates technical content, improves quality, reduces costs, and makes effective decisions while meeting schedules. Reports to management for approval.
  • Maintains and coordinates projects and schedules, reporting status promptly.
  • Communicates effectively with international teams, suppliers, and partners, supporting project milestones and creating SOR documents.
  • Shares technical documentation and supports company objectives.
  • Analyzes new technologies, prepares reports, and participates in technical meetings.
  • Investigates competitors’ vehicles and subsystems for research, preparing presentations.
  • Evaluates and releases engineering drawings, mentors junior engineers, and performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Education, Experience & Training
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (advanced degree a plus).
  • Minimum five years’ experience in automotive product design engineering.
  • Experience with air intake systems (e.g., air filter, intake manifold, throttle body, MAF, intake tubes, heat shields).
Knowledge

Strong knowledge of automotive component design, including detailed drawings, vehicle performance, FEA analysis, DFMEA, GD&T, material selection, and regulations. Familiarity with CAD/CAM systems like Siemens NX and simulation software is required. Additional knowledge in commercial vehicle subsystems is a plus.

Skills & Abilities
  • Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and 3D designs, conduct research, and obtain a commercial driver’s license.
Physical Standards
  • Ability to access and use a computer, travel domestically and internationally, and perform light to occasional heavy lifting.
