Position Focus: The Mechanical Engineer provides technical direction, project management, and analytical expertise in support of mechanical and energy systems of the University’s capital program and campus operations. The role involves interacting with Yale’s planning and project management staff, operations personnel, and consulting professionals, focusing on developing innovative projects to reduce energy use and support the University’s climate goals. Responsibilities include supporting senior engineering staff, solving complex technical problems, developing engineering standards, and collaborating on projects with consulting design professionals.

Essential Duties
  1. Participate in the formulation, design, construction, and commissioning of projects overseen by the University's capital projects group. Review design professionals’ work concerning University objectives, standards, operability, maintainability, and cost-effectiveness. Provide feedback and assistance regarding engineering design aspects.
  2. Facilitate commissioning of new and renovated systems, including reviewing functional acceptance test scripts, participating in field testing, and interfacing with operations personnel about operability and maintainability. Participate in systems training.
  3. Manage engineering projects by retaining qualified outside consultants and contractors, supporting scope and RFP preparation, overseeing project execution, and ensuring quality, schedule, and budget adherence. Represent findings in oral and written formats.
  4. Assist University operations staff in troubleshooting systems and providing operational solutions.
  5. Support the formulation of projects for system replacements, upgrades, or enhancements.
  6. Review and suggest improvements to campus automation systems.
  7. Participate in budget development for projects and capital spending.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field and five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
